Following a meeting of the Club Executive this evening, Laune Rangers have ratified the appointment of joint Managers of our Senior Team for 2020 – John Sheehan & James Sheehan.

The pair have worked together for six years throughout the age grades at the club, winning County Division 1 titles at U16 and Minor level with James at the helm & reaching the County Minor Division 1 Final with John as Bainistóir.

In an incredible career, John Sheehan played Minor, U21 (All Ireland winner 1998) & Senior (All Ireland winner 2004) with Kerry. He won Corn Uí Mhuirí & Hogan Cup with Intermediate School Killorglin in 1996.

As a Laune Ranger, John played an incredible 23 years of Senior football with a roll of honour that reads:- 1 All Ireland Senior Club, 2 Munster Senior Club, 2 County SFC, 2 County Senior Club, 10 Mid Kerry Senior Championships, 4 County League Div 1, 1 County U21 Championship. He also captained Laune Rangers to their last County Minor Championship title in 1995. Of course, he has not hung up his boots just yet, as he continues to tog out with the club’s B team!

James Sheehan had a distinguished career as a player, representing Kerry Minors in 1978, & the Kerry team that won All Ireland Vocational Schools titles in 1977 & 1978. During a 14 year Senior career (1978-1991), James played on the team that brought the Bishop Moynihan trophy across the Laune bridge as County Champions in 1989. He won eight Mid Kerry Senior Championships, 3 County League Division 1 titles, & 1 County Minor title as a player.

s brings fantastic management experience to the coaching ticket. As well as the success mentioned above, he led Laune Rangers to County Minor Championship title in 1987 & 1995 as well as County Minor League Division 1 titles in 1987 and four in a row 1995-1998. He managed Mid Kerry to County Senior Football Championship victory in 2008, and has managed East Kerry & St Kierans in the County Championship since then, before reprising his role i gCiarraí Lár in 2019.

John & James will bring their Minor management team with them to the Senior ranks – Jerry O’Brien, Fergus Riordan & Nigel Corkery – while they will also be joined by Tom Crowley in their coaching ticket.

The appointment officially brings Tim Fleming’s term as manager to an end. Laune Rangers GAA would like to thank Timmy for the unwavering dedication that he gave to the role for the past two years. We also thank his management team of Mark O’Connor, Eoin Corkery & Pa Sheehan, and we hope to see all four proud Laune Rangers out cheering on their club going forward.
