Laune Rangers Notes 9th February 2014

BEREAVEMENT: Last Saturday night February 8th, Laune Rangers were saddened to hear of the passing of Jim Galvin.  Jim was a real club stalwart and was a past Vice-Chairman of the club, as well as serving as pitch development officer.  While he resided in New York, he raised funds for the development of our home, JP O’Sullivan Park in the 1950s and 60s.  He also played a huge part in the organization of the club’s trips to New York in 1970 and 1973.  In recent years, and up to two weeks ago, he served as part of our Lotto team every Sunday night, and a minute’s silence was observed by all at bingo in the CYMS Hall last Sunday night in his honour.  Laune Rangers extend our deepest sympathies to the Galvin family.  Ar dheis dé go raibh a anam.

LOTTO:                 Sunday 9th February:  There was no winner of this week’s €4200 jackpot.  The numbers drawn were 3 – 18 – 21 – 22.  The consolation prizes were as follows: €100 Treasa O’Donovan, sold by Pat Foley.  € 50 Will Scally, sold by Foley’s Spar Express.  Credit Union Vouchers of €50:  Mary Keary, sold by Pat Foley & Johnny Murphy, sold by Kerry.  February Lotto Team: James Riordan, Barry Harman, James Ferris, Colm Conway.  Next week’s jackpot will be €4400.

CLUB DRAW:      Time is running out to enter the GAA’s 2014 National Club Draw takes place on St Patrick’s Day with some great prizes to be won, such as the 1st Prize of a trip for two to the 2014 International Rules series in Australia.  There are also prizes containing tickets to a Croke Park concert in 2014 so fans of a certain Country Music Star will have no Unanswered Prayers if they win those! Contact PRO Aidan Clifford on 0879065927 or any member of the executive for tickets, which can be purchased for just €10.

MEMBERSHIP 2014:  Laune Rangers is now open to Club Membership for 2014.  Subscription fees are as follows:  Family €70, Full member €50, OAP €20.  These can be paid to Club Registrars Mary Gallagher or Tim Cronin.  Our Ladies Membership is also open at the same rates as the men, with the addition of a Ladies County Board Levy of €15 paid by all girls playing U12 upwards.

CELEBRATIONS:                In 2014, we celebrate a milestone, the 125th anniversary of winning the very first Kerry County Championship title (1889).  The main event of our celebrations is a gala dance to be held in the CYMS hall on Friday, 14th March.  The showpiece event of the night is the announcement of the Team of the ½ century – the best XV to have played Championship football for Laune Rangers over the past 50 years.  There will be other awards and honours announced on the night, as well as full bar and food provided & it promises to be a great club night.  Tickets are available at €15 & can be purchased from Mulvihills Pharmacy or from Tim Cronin on 0873509117.

We are also looking to borrow old photos or memorabilia to be dispayed on that night & over the weekend in general.  If anyone has items or photos and are willing to lend them to Laune Rangers for use in the exhibits, please contact Club Chairman Declan Falvey on (087) 2185216 or Secretary Terence Houlihan on (087) 9788003.  Alternatively items can be brought to Mulvihills Pharmacy in Killorglin in an envelope with the owner’s name, address and contact number so that they can be returned.  In the case of photos, they will be scanned to computer and returned to the owner in the same condition it was received.
