SENIORS: Laune Rangers Seniors travelled to John Mitchels on Sunday afternoon with the threat of a relegation playoff still a possibility for both teams – Rangers one point better off than Mitchels on the League Table and two clear of the drop zone. In a tight opening period, a John Tyther point was cancelled out by the home side. Shane McSweeney restored the Rangers lead with a point before a goalmouth scramble found the ball at the feet of Pa Joy, who finished to the bottom corner of the net. Further points from Liam Quirke and Pa Joy saw Laune Rangers lead after a quarter of the game, 1-4 to 0-1. John Mitchels got their second point before it was quickly cancelled out by a John Sheehan effort. Conditions worsened at the end of the first half, as rain fell and a strong breeze picked up. Mitchels were able to take advantage of the wind at their backs, and scored three unanswered points to leave the score at the break; John Mitchels 0-5, Laune Rangers 1-5. The home side began the second half as they had finished the first, scoring three points to tie the scores up within five minutes. Rangers responded with three points of their own from Colm O’Shea & Pa Joy (2) to lead by 1-8 to 0-8 with a quarter of the game to go. Rangers then lost Johnny Carey to a black card & John Mitchels immediately took advantage with a brace of points to reduce the Rangers lead to the minimum. Half Time Substitute Padraig Murphy pointed for Rangers to put two between the sides but Mitchels rallied, & three unanswered points gave the home side a surprise lead. Rangers had time though, and a Liam Quirke point tied the scores up at 1-10 to 0-13. Neither side created another significant chance and the matched finished level. Full Time: John Mitchels 0-13, Laune Rangers 1-10. Points were shared between the sides, but the game was proven irrelevant as the Kenmare defeat of Skellig Rangers sent the Portmagee side down to Division Three.
