UNDER 14 BOYS: The second round of the County Under 14 Leagues took place on Wednesday evening. Glenflesk and Laune Rangers served up a fantastic contest and couldn’t be separated at the final whistle so Division One points were shared. Meanwhile in Killorglin, Laune Rangers had a comfortable victory over Ballymacelligott in Division 9. Played in Barraduff Community Field, the Division One encounter between Glenflesk and Laune Rangers was hugely exciting. Glenflesk took the lead early in the game with three unanswered points in the first 6 minutes. However, Rangers were level by the 9th minute with points from Jack O’Sullivan (2) and Jack Lynch. An Eoghan Hassett point to give Rangers the lead was quickly cancelled out by a pointed free for Glenflesk but, aided by some stout defending by the Rangers backs, the visitors kicked three unanswered points of their own through Adam Owens, Jack O’Sullivan and a great long range effort from Darragh O’Grady to lead by 0-7 to 0-4 after 18 minutes. Two points from Glenflesk reduced the gap to the minimum, but Rangers scored their first score of the evening in the 23rd minute as Jack Lynch put a deft finish past the home goalkeeper following a super move that involved some great kick passing. Lynch added another point five minutes later and Rangers second goal came almost immediately after – Adam Owens firing home from close range. Glenflesk had a late goal chance before the break, but Adam Carey saved a rasping shot before Tom Whittleton cleared the danger. Half Time Score:- Glenflesk 0-6, Laune Rangers 2-8. Adam Carey saved Rangers again at the beginning of the second half, and it was an important save as Glenflesk (both frees) & Rangers through Eoghan Hassett (1 play, 1 free) exchanged two points each in the first 5 minutes after the restart. However, the home side gained some momentum during the third quarter and went on to score four points as well as their only goal of the game to trail by a solitary point at 1-12 to 2-10 with 15 minutes to play. Rangers restored parity in terms of balance of play, with Ciarán O’Sullivan gaining advantage on the left side of the Rangers defence. Eoghan Hassett doubled Rangers’ advantage with an excellent score but Glenflesk were level on the 53rd minute with two further points (1 free). Hassett put Rangers ahead once more late on but, with the final kick of the game, Glenflesk equalized for a deserved draw. Full Time Score:- Glenflesk 1-15, Laune Rangers 2-12. Laune Rangers ‘Blue’:- Adam Carey, Tim Mangan, Aona O’Shea, Cathal O’Callaghan, Killian Spillane, Tom Whittleton, Ciarán O’Sullivan, Darragh O’Grady (0-1), Ryan Diggin, Darragh Evans, Eoghan Hassett (0-5, 2f), Jack Lynch (1-2), Adam Owens (1-1), Cillian Foley, Jack O’Sullivan (0-3).
