BEREAVEMENT: Laune Rangers were saddened to hear of the death of former club Vice-Chairman Sean Foley last week. As a mark of respect, Laune Rangers formed Guards of Honour at both his removal last Wednesday evening and his funeral on Thursday morning. Our condolences go to the Foley family. Ar Dheis Dé go raibh a anam.

SENIOR ‘A’ TEAM: Laune Rangers took on Beaufort on Saturday evening in the final round of the Mid Kerry League. On a wet and windy evening at JP O’Sullivan Park, it was the visitors who opened the scoring through a pointed free from James Coffey after 2 minutes. Colm O’Shea slotted over a free of his own shortly after to tie the scores before Beaufort’s Conor Breen hit the crossbar with a stinging shot but the rebound was swept up by the Rangers defense and cleared. Colm O’Shea added two more points – one from a free – to put Rangers in the lead on the quarter mark 0-3 to 0-1. Beaufort were then able to put their stamp on the game for the second quarter and scored three unanswered points through James O’Reilly and a brace from Fergal Hallisey to lead at half time 0-4 to 0-3.

The second half had quite a messy start. Poor handling and loose passing from both teams, which could be attributed to the bad conditions, meant that there was no score for the first ten minutes of the second half. In fact, the first noteworthy point of the half was a black card for Beaufort’s Fergal Hallissey for a cynical foul on the 41st minute. This seems to spur Laune Rangers on though, & a minute later Ryan Keane was on the end of a Shane McSweeney pass across the small square to find the net with a well taken half-volley. Padraig Doona responded with a point for Beaufort to make the score 1-3 to 0-5 with a quarter of the game to go. Rangers then assumed control of game though and a well finished shot to the top corner of the net by Colm O’Shea followed by a Shane McSweeney point gave Rangers a five point lead with 5 minutes to go. Ronan Murphy scored 2 fine frees for Beaufort but Kevin Flynn got the final score of the game with a free of his own to make the final score Laune Rangers 2-5 to 0-7.

MINORS: Our Minors were in action last Friday evening at home against Castleisland Desmonds in the County League. Desmonds had a bright start but couldn’t capitalize on their chances with two wides and a shot of the upright in the opening minutes. That was as good as it got for the visitors though, as Rangers opened the scoring with a Patrick Daly free and two more points quickly followed through Jamie Clifford & David Costello to put Rangers 0-3 to 0-0 ahead after 10 minutes. Desmonds got on the board with a point before Jamie Clifford cancelled it out with another of his own. Two Desmonds points reduced their deficit to one before a Rangers flurry in the final mins of the half saw points from Daly, Owen O’Sullivan, and Costello as well as a fisted goal from John Chris O’Brien to put Rangers ahead 1-7 to 0-3 at the break. Rangers opened the 2nd half brightly. A brace from David Costello, the latter a great team point where 9 players handled the ball, put the home side in control. Desmonds scored a point themselves to put the score at 1-9 to 0-4 after 36 minutes. Rangers then kicked in to gear, and unanswered points from Daniel Macbeth, Daniel Whittleton, Daly (2), John Tyther, Costello and Aidan O’Sullivan as well as a 2nd goal from O’Brien gave the hosts an unattainable lead with 10 minutes to go. A point for Desmonds followed by a goal from a penalty put some gloss on the final score but Rangers were well worth their victory. Fulltime 2-16 to 1-5
