MINORS: Laune Rangers faced Keel/Listry in the County League this evening in JP O’Sullivan Park. Keel/Listry led by 2-3 to 0-4 after 20 minutes following a dominant opening period, but Rangers closed out the half strongly and scored 4 unanswered to trail by the minimum at the break – Laune Rangers 0-8, Keel/Listry 2-3. This score might have been much different if not for the performance of Keel/Listry goalkeeper Luke Flynn, who pulled off two fantastic saves in the 2nd quarter. The first deflected over the bar for a point for Cian O’Shea, while the 2nd went out for a 45 that was dispatched by Patrick Daly. Keel/Listry stretched their lead in the opening minutes of the second half – scoring two points in as many minutes after the resumption. A Cian O’Shea point was cancelled out immediately by the visitors, before the score was tied up once more in the 40th minute when Daniel Whittleton found the bottom corner of the net for a well taken goal. A Fiachra Clifford point was sandwiched between two Keel/Listry scores before the Clifford cousins teamed up for Rangers second goal – Jamie beating his marker before setting on a run in from the corner and crossing the ball to Fiachra, who dispatched to the net. This put Rangers 2-10 to 2-8 ahead after 45 minutes, but it would prove to be the last score for the Laune-siders. Keel/Listry pushed on to score an unanswered 1-4 in the final quarter to take the win in what was a very entertaining game. Final score: Laune Rangers 2-10, Keel/Listry 3-12. Laune Rangers Team: Padraig Aherne, Pierce Tyther, George Evans, Patrick Carey, Darragh O’Sullivan, Manus Gallagher, Daniel Whittleton (1-0), Neil O’Brien, John Francis O’Grady, Fiachra Clifford (1-2), Jamie Clifford (0-1), Cian O’Shea (0-2), Paddy Collins, John Christopher O’Brien, Patrick Daly(0-5). Sub: Darragh O’Shea.
U16 BOYS: Our U16s faced Churchill on Monday 30th March in the Central Region competition In horrendous weather conditions, the teams played out a draw at 2-8 a piece. Well done to both teams. U14 BOYS: Laune Rangers Under 14s teams began their County League campaign on Wednesday evening last, with both ‘Blue’ & ‘White’ Teams facing Dr Crokes in Killorglin. A strong breeze blowing down the field from the town end was a major factor in the Division 1 game in particular. The Blue side trailed by 1-6 to 0-1 at half time having faced into the breeze, but the rotating full back line of Cormac Doyle, Evan Madden and particularly Timmy O’Shea holding firm to only concede one goal late in the half. The side put in a fantastic team effort in the second half and found the net time and time again to win well with a flattering scoreline, by 9-4 to 1-8, with Shane Doona, Gearoid Hassett and David Mangan shining through. Laune Rangers Team: Ronan Fitzpatrick, Cormac Doyle, Evan Madden, Timmy O’Shea, Seán Cleary, Owen Clifford (0-2), Conor Burke, Gabriel Griffin, James Hurley, Gearoid Hassett (4-0), Shane Doona (0-2), Ronan O’Shea (1-0), Dean Callan, Jack Evans (1-0), Matthew Leslie. Subs used: Roan Moriarty, Rory O’Connor, David Mangan (3-0). The ‘White’ Team lost to their Dr Crokes counterparts after some great football with both teams having to deal with a cross-field wind. Final score: Laune Rangers 2-13, Dr Crokes 3-11. Laune Rangers ‘White’ Team: Tiernach O’Shea, Steven O’Sullivan, Cian Naylor, Niall Fenton Toms, Peadar Foley, Steven Sealey, Martin Fay, Dean Cahill, Jack Carey, Nathan Houlihan, James Clifford, Steven Cronin, Darragh Mangan, Callum Russell, Calum Moriarty; Mikey O’Donnell, James Treacy, Daniel Evans, Darragh Evans.
