CHRISTY KISSANE CUP: The 2nd Annual Christy Kissane Cup was played out on Saturday, February 3rd as Laune Rangers hosted Kingdom Kerry Gaels in Cloon. The full tournament was unfortunately cancelled early in the week as the unrelenting weather caused the closure of pitches. Christy’s beloved Kingdom Kerry Gaels made the journey for the event and were driven to carry the silverware back to London with them. It was also Laune Rangers’ first game of 2018 with the management team at the helm. However, Rangers were without an array of first team players as the Under 21s had a Mid Kerry Semi Final ahead of them 24 hours later, with a number of others out injured. Kingdom Kerry Gaels got off to a great start with a goal in the 2nd minute, but the first half in general was evenly balanced & just a point separated the sides at the break – John Tyther, Colm O’Shea (free) and Shane Mangan points added to a Colm O’Shea goal. Half Time Score:- Laune Rangers 1-3, Kingdom Kerry Gaels 1-3. The beginning of the second half saw a heavy shower of hail during which time KKG scored two goals that were missed by the majority of spectators that had scurried for shelter! The hail subsided for the remainder of the game but KKG did not relent and, apart from a John Tyther penalty that was excellently dispatched in a mud-bath of a goal area, the Londoners were the better side for the final stages of the game. A fourth goal for KKG secured the win on a Final Score:- Laune Rangers 2-6, Kingdom Kerry Gaels 4-7. After the Christy Kissane Cup spent the first year of its existence on the banks of the Laune, it now rather fittingly embarks across the pond the spend 2018 in London in the grasp of the Club so beloved by the man it is dedicated to. We hope to see Kingdom Kerry Gaels again in 2019 for the chance to win it back! Laune Rangers squad:- Jason Browne, Ronan Sayers, Johnny Carey, Cormac Johnston, James Lynch, Chris Riordan, Colm O’Mahony, Jack O’Connor, Shane Daly, Colm O’Shea, Shane McSweeney, John Tyther, David Costelloe, Shane Mangan, Eamonn Carey, John O’Shea, Gavin O’Shea, Kevin O’Sullivan, Cathal Doyle.
