MINORS: Laune Rangers form part of the Mid Kerry squad in the County Minor Championship. They face East Kerry tomorrow (Thursday) in JP O’Sullivan Park in Killorglin at 7pm.

UNDER 16 GIRLS: Laune Rangers and Dr Crokes faced off in Beaufort on Thursday evening in the Ladies County League Under 16 Final. Laune Rangers got off to a flying start and following a Lisa Mangan point, some great play led to a Cliona Coffey goal. Crokes responded with a three-pointer of their own before Ciara O’Brien pointed a free for Rangers. After Crokes and Rangers (through Cliona Coffey) had exchanged points, Lucy Knight pulled off a great save in the Killorglin goal to keep Rangers in front. Points from Cliona Coffey (2) and Ciara O’Brien stretched the lead to four while simultaneously the Rangers defence were holding firm with some great work from the backs and Lucy Clifford in particular. As the half time whistle drew near, Ciara O’Brien scored two goals in quick succession to give her side a commanding advantage, while Crokes managed to add on two points before the break. At half time, the score was Laune Rangers 3-6, Dr Crokes 1-3. Dr Crokes were on an all out attack after the break, but Rangers net minder Lucy Knight was in stellar form, with three super saves in the third quarter. A Megan Gamble point was cancelled out by Crokes and the Killarney side then got a goal & a point to bring the difference in score back to 5 points. Rangers were not about to let this one slip away from them though, and closed out the game very well. Ciara O’Brien completed her goal hat-trick as well as notching up two more points, while Megan Gamble got her second point of the evening. Dr Crokes managed to find the net for their third goal, but the final whistle came to give Rangers a deserved win and the title of County League Champions. The final score in Beaufort was Laune Rangers 4-10, Dr Crokes 3-6. Team: Lucy Knight, Ciara O’Sullivan, Lucy Clifford, Sarah Clifford, Tara breen, Alanna Foley, Sarah Clifford capt, Yvonne Sheehan, Cliona Coffey (1-3), Ciara O’Brien (3-4), Megan Gamble (0-2), Lisa Mangan (0-1), Roisin O’Hara. Subs: Molly O’Donnell, Fiona Brennan, Lauren Hurley, Muireann Arthurs, Alice Joy, Nikki Clifford. Also in squad: Brenda Brennan, Laura Brennan.

UNDER 14 BOYS: Laune Rangers U14s played Austin Stacks in the Central Region Division 1 final on Thursday night last. Rangers had defeated a familiar foe in Churchill on the previous Monday by 5-10 to 2-14 in the semi final, and thus qualified for the Final in Ballymacelligott against the Tralee outfit. After a good first half performance, the Launesiders conceded 3 late points just before the break to go in at half time with the narrowest of leads; Laune Rangers 0-6, Austin Stacks 0-5. The momentum was with the Rockies though, and came out after the break to open up a big lead of their own. Three Stacks goals, each a carbon copy of the previous one & all that would have been disallowed in the ‘square ball’ era, were a hammer blow to Laune Rangers. Having fallen to an 8 point deficit, Rangers fought back & scored two great goals from Daragh O’Connor & Shane Doona but simply could not recoup the deficit & eventually lost. The Final score was Austin Stacks 3-11, Laune Rangers 2-10. Laune Rangers: Erwin Brennan, Liam Croke, Sean Arthurs, Connor Murphy, David Mangan, Kevin Fitzpatrick, Oisin Daly, Daragh O’Connor (1-2), Dylan Fitzgerald, Eoin O’Sullivan (0-1), Daire Cleary (0-1), Shane Doona (1-2), Ronan O’Shea (0-2), Roan Moriarty (0-2), Gabriel Griffin. Subs: Eoin Clifford, Evan Madden, Conor Burke.
