KERRY: Well Done to Peter Crowley and the Kerry Seniors who defeated Monaghan in Killarney on Sunday in the National Football League.

SENIOR: The final round of the Mid Kerry Senior League took place on Sunday morning as Laune Rangers hosted Cromane in JP O’Sullivan Park, and it was Rangers who came out on top in the Killorglin derby following a strong second half performance. Cromane were drawing from a full deck on the day with Donnchadh Walsh lining out at midfield, while Rangers were without their Kerry Senior & Under 20 contingent among others. There was little to separate the sides in the opening exchanges. After David Costelloe had kicked a fine point to open the scoring, Cromane replied with three in succession through Seán O’Sullivan & Darren Houlihan (2, 1 free). David Costelloe & Colm O’Shea (free) pointed for Rangers to level matters. A long range point by Donnchadh Walsh was cancelled out by a pointed free for Rangers through Patrick Daly to see the sides tied at 0-4 a piece after 15 minutes. Laune Rangers scored twice in the second quarter with points from David Costelloe (his third excellent score) and Jack O’Connor, but Seán O’Sullivan scored three points for Cromane to see the visitors lead by the minimum at the break. Half Time Score:- Laune Rangers 0-6, Cromane 0-7. It was in the third quarter that Rangers took control of this game as, following a well taken Mark O’Connor point, the hosts scored two goals in quick succession to fire into a big lead – David Costelloe with a super shot into the top corner having been knocked off balance, while Patrick Daly kept his head to finish calmly past Paudie McMahon after Shane McSweeney had given a nice pass into the square. Jason Browne pulled off a great save to deny Cromane a goal chance while at the other end, Colm O’Mahony & Colm O’Shea (free) added to Rangers lead with points. With a quarter to play, Laune Rangers led by 2-9 to 0-7. Browne added a super pointed 45’ in sleety conditions, before Seán O’Sullivan scored Cromane’s first point of the second half with a free in the 52nd minute. Darren Houlihan almost rattled the net for Cromane as his shot struck the butt of the post following a fine run but the gap was not to be closed before the end of the game. Rangers also came close to another goal, but Shane McSweeney’s shot was stopped by Paudie McMahon. Cromane’s final point of the game through Finbarr Casey was nullified by a Jack O’Connor point for Rangers. Full Time Score:- Laune Rangers 2-11, Cromane 0-9.
