JUNIOR: Laune Rangers defence of the Mid Kerry Junior League has come to an end, following defeat to Beaufort in JP O’Sullivan Park on Tuesday evening. Beaufort found themselves ahead by 0-3 to 0-0 after 6 minutes, with Kevin O’Brien slotting all three points (2 frees) for his side. Laune Rangers got on the scoreboard with a successful 45 from goalkeeper Jason Browne, a point – with the angle of the shot taken into account – from more than 50 metres. Beaufort were much the stronger side though, and by half time they led by 2-9 to 0-4, as late goals by Niall O’Connor and Kevin O’Brien gave them a considerable advantage at the break with points coming from O’Brien (3, 2 frees), Ronan Ferris (2) and Niall O’Connor. Laune Rangers scores came from Patrick Daly (free) and Pa Sheehan before Jason Browne added his second successful 45 just before the short whistle. The second half was not two minutes old when Jason Browne was making his way upfield for a free kick attempt from over 45 metres and – for the third time in the game – he split the posts for a super point. An Eric Dunlea goal – finished well following a quick attack from deep – brought Rangers to within seven points, but the home side didn’t get any closer to the visitors after that. Patrick Daly cancelled out a Kevin O’Brien free with one of his own, before Ronan Ferris scored Beaufort’s third goal to effectively seal the win. Jason Browne kicked his fourth successful long range dead ball, and Jerome Houlihan pointed late for Rangers, but points for Beaufort from Kevin O’Brien and Sean Foley left Beaufort victors on a final score:- Laune Rangers 1-8, Beaufort 3-12. Laune Rangers were served best by captain Mark Healy, Johnny Carey, Pa Sheehan, with the highlight package filled by Jason Browne’s four excellent long range points from placed ball. Beaufort’ Edwin Kelliher put in a big effort at wing back, while Ronan Ferris and Senior player Sean Foley caused havoc at wing forward and midfield respectively. However, the return by Kevin O’Brien of 1-8 – 5 frees included – was the stand out performance for the winners. Laune Rangers: Jason Browne (0-4f), Tadhg Curran, Johnny Carey, Paul Larkin, Gavin O’Shea, Aidan Cox, Aaron Gamble, Cian Foley, Mark Healy, Eric Dunlea (1-0), Pa Sheehan (0-1), Jack Smith, Pierce Tyther, Patrick Daly (0-2f), Eamonn Carey. Subs used: George Evans, Paudie O’Shea, Luke O’Shea, James Lynch, Jerome Houlihan (0-1), Garry Flynn. Beaufort: Jason Foley, Gary Tangney, Conor Breen, Conor Cronin, Edwin Kelliher, Shane O’Sullivan, Sean Fogarty, Shane O’Sullivan, Sean Fogarty, Padraig Hallissey, Sean Foley (0-1), Ronan Ferris (1-2), Michael O’Sullivan, Gary Coffey, Aaron Foley, Kevin O’Brien (1-8, 5f), Niall O’Connor (1-1).
