SENIOR: Laune Rangers’ unbeaten record in the Division 4 of the County League came to an end on Sunday afternoon with an away defeat to Castlegregory. Already spread thin with a number of injuries, Rangers were – for various reasons – without Kieran Doona, Fiachra Clifford, Shane Doona, & David Mangan who joined Sean Arthurs, Conor Murphy, David Costelloe & Cormac Johnston on the sideline. The early minutes were low in scores as Rangers were unable to convert their dominance onto the scoreboard. Laune Rangers led by 0-4 to 0-1 with 17 minutes played with all the visitors scores coming from the boot of Dáire Cleary (two frees). Castlegregory found themselves ahead against the run of play, scoring two goals in as many minutes. However, Rangers responded well and points from Dáire Cleary (free), John Tyther & Patrick Daly levelled matters. Rangers were dealt a blow in this period when Johnny Carey was forced off with an ankle injury following a late challenge. The home side took the lead again before Dáire Cleary kicked the last score of the half with a pointed free. Half Time Score:- Castlegregory 2-2, Laune Rangers 0-8. The home side scored the first three points of the second half, but Rangers came back with pointed frees from Dáire Cleary & Patrick Daly. The home side took to fouling Rangers every time they reached the 45 in order to protect their goal, and it was a tactic that ultimately paid off. Castlegregory scored a third goal with Rangers caught upfield to go ahead by 3-5 to 0-10 with a quarter to play. Patrick Daly pointed a free for Rangers before Dáire Cleary saw a goal chance saved. Castlegregory pointed twice (one free), before Rangers were awarded a penalty when Shane Daly was hauled down in the small square. John Tyther dispatched the spot kick to the net to reduce the gap to two but the home side pointed from the 45 to see them to victory. Full Time Score:- Castlegregory 3-8, Laune Rangers 1-11. While the defeat will be disappointing, Laune Rangers remain at the top of the County League Division 4 with four rounds remaining. Laune Rangers:- Jason Browne, Michael O’Sullivan, Jonathan Carey, Colm O’Mahony, Patrick Carey, Shane McSweeney, Pierce Tyther, Jack O’Connor, Shane Daly, John Tyther (capt, 1-1, 1pen), Darragh O’Sullivan, Daragh O’Connor, Mark O’Connor, Patrick Daly (0-3, 2f), Dáire Cleary (0-7, 4f). Sub: Liam Quirke for J Carey.

SENIOR FIXTURE: Round 8 of the County Senior Football League sees Laune Rangers host Finuge. The game is set for weekend of July 13/14 – details not yet finalized.

SENIOR LADIES: Laune Rangers came away from Currow on Monday evening win a super win in the County League, but they had to hang on in the last quarter as Currow fought back from sixteen points down at one point to give Rangers a scare. Early points from Nessa Healy, Fodhla Houlihan & Nicole Moriarty were met by a single point for the hosts before Fodhla Houlihan struck for Rangers first goal of the game in the 10th minute. Rangers added points through Nicole Moriarty (free) and Rachael Evans before Nessa Healy scored the second Rangers goal, although Currow did reply with a goal of their own to see Rangers leading by 2-5 to 1-1 with a quarter played. Laune Rangers scored a third goal through Kayleigh McGlashan – an interception at the back by Christina O’Brien setting up a swift counter attack – and further points from Nicole Moriarty (3) & Fodhla Houlihan saw Rangers take a strong lead into the break. Half Time Score:- Currow 1-4, Laune Rangers 3-9. Rangers began the second half as they had ended the first, extending the lead with their fourth goal through Kayleigh McGlashan after a fantastic team move. Currow scored three points but Rangers added points through Nicole Moriarty (free), Nessa Healy (2), Orla O’Brien & Andrea Nolan to lead by 4-14 to 1-7 with a quarter to play. The sunshine that had affected the Currow goalkeeper in the first half, was now – lying lower in the sky – causing issues with the Rangers defence. This gave Currow a chance to get back into the game, and they capitalized on it with great effect. They scored an unanswered 3-2 in a five minute period that brought them back to within five of Rangers, but Fodhla Houlihan scored a much needed point to stem the tide. Currow were now laying siege to the Rangers goal, but the visitors stood firm – Laura Brennan pulling off a great save from point blank range. Currow had to settle for a point on two occasions, reducing the gap to four points, but Rachael Evans scored a great point at the other end to keep the scoreboard ticking over for Rangers – the youngest team members Orla O’Brien and Laura Leslie instrumental in the buildup. Two further points were added by Currow in their search for a goal to leave just a kick of the ball between the sides, but Meadhbh O’Sullivan produced a super kickout reception from Laura Brennan to take the pressure off the defence and from there, Rangers worked the ball downfield for the insurance point through Nicole Moriarty. The final whistle was a welcome sound for a tired Rangers team. Full Time Score:- Currow 4-13, Laune Rangers 4-17. Laune Rangers:- Laura Brennan, Alanna Dolan, Claire Fealey, Christina O’Brien, Orla O’Brien (0-1), Meadhbh O’Sullivan, Hannah McGeever, Rachael Evans (0-2), Andrea Nolan (0-1), Laura Leslie, Nicole Moriarty (0-7), Milly Foley, Fodhla Houlihan (1-3), Kayleigh McGlashan (2-0), Nessa Healy (1-3). Sub: Annemarie Fealey.

MINOR: The County Minor Championship got underway on Tuesday evening, as Laune Rangers travelled to Lewis Road to take on Dr Crokes. Unfortunately, a number of thunder showers throughout the evening made for a poor game, with the home side doing enough to take the win. A pointed free for Crokes in the first passage of play in the game was cancelled out by a well taken Shane Doona point. The teams traded points again (Matt Leslie with a free for Rangers) before Dr Crokes scored their first goal. The home side added a free to lead by 1-3 to 0-2 with a quarter played. Ronan O’Shea made up for an earlier miss by pointing a free before Crokes scored three points in succession, although Eoin Clifford scored the final point of the half to leave Rangers trailing by five. Half Time Score:- Dr Crokes 1-6, Laune Rangers 0-4. Laune Rangers played much better from the start of the second half, scoring two frees through Ronan O’Shea but Crokes killed their momentum by following up a point with their second goal. Matt Leslie pointed a free before the home side added two points to see Dr Crokes leading by 2-9 to 0-7 with fifteen minutes to play. Rangers held their hosts scoreless throughout the final quarter, as they laid siege to the Crokes goal. Roan Moriarty and Matt Leslie scored pointed frees before Gearóid Hassett scored a well taken point. Rangers continued to pile on the pressure, and two more Matt Leslie frees brought Rangers to within three points. However, the final whistle would come before Rangers could score the levelling goal. Full Time Score:- Dr Crokes 2-9, Laune Rangers 0-12. Laune Rangers:- Jack Evans, Seán Cleary, Matt Reenstierna, Evan Madden (capt), Eoin Clifford (0-1), Rory O’Connor, James Hurley, Roan Moriarty (0-1f), David Mangan, Ronan O’Shea (0-3f), Gabriel Griffin, Matthew Leslie (0-5f), Gearóid Hassett (0-1), Stephen Sealey, Shane Doona (0-1). Subs: Calum Moriarty, Conor Burke.

UNDER 16 BOYS: A high scoring encounter in Glenflesk on Wednesday evening saw Laune Rangers win comfortably in Division 1 of the County Under 16 League. Rangers took an early lead in with Darragh O’Grady pointing before Marc Clifford intercepted a kickout and rattled the net for the game’s first goal. However, the home side were level within minutes as they scored 1-1 of their own to tie the game up. Clifford, O’Grady, Cathal Crowley & Eoghan Hassett all added points for the visitors before Glenflesk scored their second point. Rangers were in control at this point though, as Eoghan Hassett & Marc Clifford scored two points each before Clifford added his second goal by finishing an excellent team move. With fifteen minutes played, Laune Rangers led by 2-9 to 1-2. Eoghan Hassett pointed a free before midfielder Callum Russell struck a fantastic shot to the top corner for Rangers third goal. Eoghan Hassett and Jack O’Sullivan both saw points cancelled out by scores at the other end for Glenflesk. Hassett & Glenflesk front man Dylan Roche traded points once more before the hosts hit the net for their second goal – the final score before the break. Half Time Score:- Glenflesk 2-5, Laune Rangers 3-13. Laune Rangers got off to a great start to the second half, with points from Eoghan Hassett and Mikey O’Donnell (free) preceding a goal by Eoghan Hassett. Glenflesk added a point but Rangers were in fine attacking form – Hassett scoring his second (& his team’s 5th) goal following another point to add to his tally. However, Glenflesk didn’t let their heads drop and engineered a comeback of sorts by scoring three goals in a five minute spell, although Rangers continued to add points at the opposite end through Marc Clifford, Darragh O’Grady & Mikey O’Donnell. With fifteen minutes remaining, Laune Rangers led by 5-19 to 5-7. Rangers continued to add to their scoreline with Calum Moriarty, Mikey O’Donnell & Eoghan Hassett pointing, but Glenflesk scored three unanswered points of their own in reply. Jack Healy (2) and Marc Clifford pointed late on but Glenflesk continued to attack themselves, scoring two more points (one from an excellent 45’). The final score of the game rightfully went to Eoghan Hassett who brought his tally to 2-10 for the night. Full Time Score:- Glenflesk 5-12, Laune Rangers 5-26.
