SENIOR ‘A’ TEAM: Our Senior side travelled south to Kenmare on Sunday in Round 7 of the County League. In dull conditions, Rangers got off to a flying start from a well taken John O’Shea goal in the 2nd minute. Pa Joy pointed for Rangers before O’Shea split the posts with a well taken point from near the left sideline. A Shane McSweeney point was sandwiched between 4 Kenmare points to leave Rangers leading by 1-3 to 0-4 at the end of the first quarter. Mike Frank Russell slotted two frees to increase Laune Rangers lead before our two minor players, Daniel Macbeth & John Tyther, got in on the act with a point each. Kenmare added to point late in the half to put the score at the break; Kenmare 0-5, Laune Rangers 1-7.
Laune Rangers flew out of the blocks after half time. Points from Shane McSweeney (2), John O’Shea (2) & a Mike Frank Russell free gave Rangers a now commanding lead & while Kenmare added two points of their own, Russell scored a great point from play to give Rangers a 1-13 to 0-7 lead with a quarter of the game remaining. Kieran Crowley received a black card for what was deemed a cynical foul & tempers frayed when Kenmare had a man sent off for a kick on a grounded John O’Shea. They also received a black card for a cynical foul on Ryan Keane. Kenmare scored two points which were duly cancelled out through Russell and Pa Joy. Another Kenmare point followed but Laune Rangers closed out the game well, as substitute Geoffrey O’Mahony and Shane McSweeney (2) scored points to make the final score Kenmare 0-10, Laune Rangers 1-18.Team:- Tony Lyons, Kieran Crowley, Johnny Carey (c), Keith Sheehan, Ryan Keane, John Sheehan, Chris Riordan, Shane Daly, Padraig Murphy, Daniel Macbeth (0-1), Shane McSweeney (0-5), John Tyther (0-1), John O’Shea (1-3), Pa Joy (0-2), Michael F Russell (0-5). UNDER 21: The weather was far from ideal at the beginning of this County U21 Championship first Round tie in Killorglin, as a torrential downpour in the hour before throw in made playing conditions difficult from the outset. Shannon Rangers adapted best though and got off to a flying start, leading by 3-4 to 0-3 after a quarter with John O’Shea (2) & John Tyther getting on the board for Rangers. Laune Rangers found their form in the second quarter though, and a David Costello goal followed by points from Eoghan O’Sullivan, Costello & John O’Shea brought Laune Rangers back into the game before the break. The Half Time score was: Laune Rangers 1-6, Shannon Rangers 3-4.
The Shannonsiders begin the second half in a similar fashion to the first & scored another 1-2 unanswered in a matter of minutes from the restart. John Tyther & Gavin O’Shea added points for Rangers to leave them trailing 4-6 to 2-7 with a quarter remaining. While Aaron Gamble & Westley Delaney pointed for Laune Rangers, Shannon rangers finished strongly & left the final score: Laune Rangers 2-9, Shannon Rangers 4-8.
