U16 GIRLS: Laune Rangers U16 girls played their 2nd County League game of the season last Thursday evening under perfect blue skies and warm temperatures. The game was played in a very sporting manner, with the visiting Rangers exhibiting great teamwork throughout. Laune Rangers came flying out of the traps early on against a very good John Mitchell's side, and every player contributed more than their fair share of work – from the backs with Sinead O’Connell and Sarah Clifford’s running and cover defending, to the excellent interchanging at midfield between Lucy Knight, Tara Breen, Kayleigh McGlashen and Rachael Evans. The link up play between the forward set was fantastic and this was shown on the scoreboard, with each forward getting in on the scoring in what was a comprehensive win. They next play Castleisland on Thursday evening – pitch and time yet to be confirmed.

U14 BOYS: Laune Rangers Under 14s were in action on Wednesday evening. Laune Rangers Under 14 ‘Blue’ made the trip to a sunny Lispole on Wednesday evening where they took on the local amalgamation of Annascaul / Lispole – both sides needing the points as they bid to make the semi finals stages of the league. In an excellent overall team performance, Rangers came out in top on a scoreline of 6-18 to 4-13. Rangers made the better start with Gearoid Hassett and Shane Doona to the fore but the home side reacted strongly netting three goals in quick succession. However Rangers steadied the ship and goals from Doona, Hassett and Jack Evans gave them a nine point lead at the interval. Playing with the wind in the 2nd half, the home side fought back into the game and could have been closer but for some good goalkeeping from Ronan Fitzpatrick who was solid throughout. Roan Moriarty was on top at midfield and with Doona, Hassett and Steven Sealey linking well, the Rangers held out for a well deserved win, where there was some excellent periods of passing and support play. In an good team display, best for Rangers were Ronan Fitzpatrick, Eoin Clifford, Roan Moriarty, Steven Sealey, Shane Doona and Gearoid Hassett. Cormac Doyle and Steven Sealey made welcome returns to the team. U14 ‘Blue’ Team: Ronan Fitzpatrick, Rory O Connor, James Hurley, Cormac Doyle, Conor Burke, Gabriel Griffin, Evan Madden, Rowan Moriarty, David Mangan, Gearoid Hassett, Shane Doona, Ronan O Shea, Dean Callan, Jack Evans, Eoin Clifford, Steven Sealey, Timmy O’ Shea. The U-14 ‘White’ Team, playing at home in J.P O' Sullivan Park, had a great win over Firies on a scoreline of 4-15 to 2-7. Rangers played excellently in both halves with great teamwork producing goals for Barry O Connor and Dean Cahill in the first half and Cian Naylor in the second half. Overall, this was a terrific performance from all players on the panel and hopefully this standard of performance can be repeated in the next game.
