UNDER 16 BOYS: Laune Rangers were defeated by Killarney Legion in the opening Round of fixtures in the County Under 16 League Division One played in Direen on Wednesday evening. Legion got off to a strong start and led by 0-8 to 0-3 after 15 minutes – Ronan O’Shea (2) and James Hurley pointing for Rangers. Laune Rangers improved in the second quarter, and Shane Doona followed up a point with a well taken goal to close the gap. However, the goal was almost immediately cancelled out when Legion hit the net themselves. Gearoid Hassett and Ronan O’Shea (free) added points for Rangers but another couple for the home side saw Legion lead by 4 at the break. Half Time Score:- Killarney Legion 1-10, Laune Rangers 1-6. An early Ronan O’Shea point was followed by Shane Doona’s second goal of the evening to draw Rangers level, but Legion were soon ahead again by scoring their second goal. James Hurley got upfield from the back to score an excellent point with Ronan O’Shea & Shane Doona (both frees) levelling matters again at 2-10 a piece with a quarter to play. Laune Rangers then took the lead with their 3rd goal – James Hurley collecting the ball following a great run and passed it off in great time to Gearoid Hassett who fisted the ball home. This lead was short lived however, as a mistake at the back by Rangers turned the ball over, with Legion punishing them up the field with a goal to tie the game up again. Legion pushed on from here and scored two goals (1 from a penalty) and a point in the final minutes to seal the win on a flattering scoreline.
