MINOR: Laune Rangers are in the Semi Final of the Mid Kerry Minor Championship following victory against Beaufort on Saturday evening, although it took extra time to separate the sides in a thriller at JP O’Sullivan Park, Killorglin. Laune Rangers took an early lead as Mark O’Connor pointed from the first play of the game while Dáire Cleary added a free shortly after. Rangers boosted their lead as Gearóid Hassett reacted well to win the ball before turning and striking the ball to the bottom corner of the net. Hassett added a point before Daragh O’Connor saw his shot saved by Beaufort ‘keeper Seán Coffey. Beaufort got on the scoreboard after nine minutes with a pointed free from recent All Ireland winner Jack O’Connor, but Rangers replied to score two frees of their own – one each from Dáire Cleary and Mark O’Connor. With fifteen minutes played, Laune Rangers led by 1-5 to 0-1. Gearóid Hassett and Shane Doona scored well taken points before Beaufort got back into the game with a stunning goal. A great pass put the ball into the path of Jack O’Connor who was able to collect it without breaking stride, and the young forward smashed the ball to the roof of the net. The visitors added a point soon afterwards but Dáire Cleary added a pointed free at the opposite end to cancel it out. Beaufort added two points late on in the half to stay within four points at the break. Half Time Score:- Laune Rangers 1-8, Beaufort 1-4. Laune Rangers scored the first three points of the second half through Dáire Cleary (free), Mark O’Connor (free) and an excellent score from Roan Moriarty. A well taken Gearóid Hassett point was sandwiched between frees from Jack O’Connor to leave Rangers leading by 1-12 to 1-5 with 15 minutes to play. However, Beaufort came into their own in the final quarter. They scored six points in succession (4 frees) to amazingly take the lead as the game entered stoppage time. Rangers regrouped, however, and their All Ireland winner David Mangan got upfield to score a fantastic equalizer. Rangers then took the lead with the best point of the game from Shane Doona, but there was time for Beaufort to get downfield and add another free to level the game again. The Full Time whistle was blown to see the game go to extra time. Score after Normal Time:- Laune Rangers 1-14, Beaufort 1-14. The first period of ten minutes saw Rangers take a two point lead with scores from Roan Moriarty & Dáire Cleary (free). Half Time Extra Time Score:- Laune Rangers 1-16, Beaufort 1-14.
