SENIORS: Our Senior A team was due to get their season underway on Sunday, with an away tie against Glenbeigh/Glencar the first Round of the Mid Kerry League. This game was unfortunately postponed. Round Two of the League takes place this Sunday with an away tie against Cromane. Throw in takes place at 2pm.
UNDER 21: Our U21s did get their season up and running though, with a Mid Kerry Championship semi final against Keel/Listry that was played in Keel. The game was a low scoring but still a great contest, with Laune Rangers prevailing after extra time on a score of 0-8 to 0-6. They now move on to play Cromane/Glenbeigh/Glencar in the Final. CLUB DRAW: Time is running out to enter the GAA’s 2014 National Club Draw takes place on St Patrick’s Day with some great prizes to be won, such as the 1st Prize of a trip for two to the 2014 International Rules series in Australia. There are also prizes containing tickets to a CROKE PARK CONCERT in 2014 so fans of a certain Country Music Star will have no Unanswered Prayers if they win those! CLUB MEETING: Our 2nd club meeting of the year takes place in JP O’Sullivan Park next Monday, March 3rd at 8:30pm. This meeting is open to all club members to attend.
REGISTRATION NIGHT: Laune Rangers Registration night takes place this Friday February 28th at our clubrooms in JP O’Sullivan Park. The Ladies registration takes place from 6-7:30. It will be followed by the boy’s registration from 7:30 to 9pm.
LADIES: U.14 girls training will commence on Monday 3rd March 17:30 to 18:30 in Cloon. From January 1st, 2014 it has become compulsory for all players in all age groups up to and including minor level to wear mouthguards in all training sessions and games. It is essential that each player has a mouthguard in order to take part in training sessions and games
MEMBERSHIP 2014: Laune Rangers is now open to Club Membership for 2014. Subscription fees are as follows: Family €70, Full member €50, OAP €20. These can be paid to Club Registrars Mary Gallagher or Tim Cronin. Our Ladies Membership is also open at the same rates as the men, with the addition of a Ladies County Board Levy of €15 paid by all girls playing U12 upwards.
CELEBRATIONS: In 2014, we celebrate a milestone, the 125th anniversary of winning the very first Kerry County Championship title (1889). The main event of our celebrations is a gala dance to be held in the CYMS hall on Friday, 14th March. The showpiece event of the night is the announcement of the Team of the ½ century – the best XV to have played Championship football for Laune Rangers over the past 50 years. There will be other awards and honours announced on the night, as well as full bar and food provided & it promises to be a great club night. Tickets are available at €15 & can be purchased from Mulvihills Pharmacy or from Tim Cronin on 0873509117.
We are still looking to borrow old photos or memorabilia to be dispayed on that night & over the weekend in general. If anyone has items or photos and are willing to lend them to Laune Rangers for use in the exhibits, please contact Club Chairman Declan Falvey on (087) 2185216 or Secretary Terence Houlihan on (087) 9788003. Alternatively items can be brought to Mulvihills Pharmacy in Killorglin in an envelope with the owner’s name, address and contact number so that they can be returned. In the case of photos, they will be scanned to computer and returned to the owner in the same condition it was received.
