UNDER 21: Laune Rangers took on Cromane/Glenbeigh/Glencar in the final of the Mid Kerry U21 Championship in Milltown on Saturday evening. In fine conditions, Rangers found themselves playing against a light breeze & had the first chance of the game inside the first minute when John Tyther had a goal chance saved by CGG goalkeeper Padraig McMahon. The amalgamated side then registered the first scores of the game when Tommy Cahill pointed two frees in quick succession to give his side the lead. Rangers then found their scoring boots and points from Jack O’Connor, John O’Shea and Aaron Gamble gave the Laune-siders the lead, before Danny O’Sullivan then scored a point for Cromane/Glenbeigh/Glencar to level the game up at the end of the first quarter. Jack O’Connor & John Tyther points for Rangers were cancelled out by points by Michael Kelly and Tommy Cahill (free). John O’Shea added two points before the break, the first a fine score from an acute angle & the second from a free. The score at half time was Laune Rangers 0-7, Cromane/Glenbeigh/Glencar 0-5.

The 2nd Half was less than a minute old when Rangers midfielder Michael O’Sullivan was brought down in the square to earn his side a penalty. It was duly dispatched by Jack O’Connor to stretch the lead to five points. CGG raised their game again though and a sustained period of possession allowed them to eat into the Rangers lead. Tommy Cahill first slotted a free, before Calvin Teahan found the net for his side. Sean Teahan’s point levelled the game at 1-7 a piece before Tommy Cahill slotted another free to give his side the lead with a quarter of the game to go. However, Laune Rangers dug their heels in and regained the lead when substitute David Costello found the net for a super goal on the 47th minute. This gave the momentum to the Laune-siders again, and victory was assured when, in quick succession, wing back Aaron Gamble got Rangers 3rd goal and Daniel Macbeth found the top corner with a stunning strike for the 4th. This gave Rangers an eight point lead with 5 minutes to go. Tommy Cahill stroked a final free for CGG but it was no more than a consolation score. The Final Score was Laune Rangers 4-7, Cromane/Glenbeigh/Glencar 1-9 & Laune Rangers were crowned Mid-Kerry U21 Champions for the first time in 11 years.

MINORS: Our Minors travelled to Annascaul on Good Friday evening to take on Annascaul/Lispole in the County League. The home side registered the first point of the game through a free kick & quickly added a second, but Laune Rangers then found their feet after 5 minutes. David Costello had a shot saved by the goalkeeper, only for the rebound to ricochet off him to find the net. Costello hadn’t time to thank his lucky stars though, as within two minutes he found himself through on goal again. Amazingly, he again had his shot saved, and again connected with the rebound to net his second goal. Owen O’Sullivan added a third goal on the 14th minute to put Rangers 3-0 to 0-2 after a quarter of the game. The second Quarter was controlled by the home side, who scored 5 unanswered points before half time to put the score at the break Annascaul/Lispole 0-7, Laune Rangers 3-0.

Rangers found themselves a man down at the start of the second half. Gearoid Joy, who had been injured in an off the ball incident, was unable to make it out on the field after the break & Rangers did not have any substitute to replace him. Rangers rallied though and a great rearguard display held out the home side and points from David Costello (2) and Aidan O’Sullivan answered 4 from the hosts to keep Rangers in the lead 3-3 to 0-11 with a quarter of the game to play. Gearoid Joy returned to the field to even up the numbers again and his presence made a big difference. After Owen O’Sullivan added a point for Rangers, a fantastic turnover by Joy in the middle of the field got the ball to David Costello to stretch our lead to 3 points. Annascaul/Lispole answered back with a point of their own before it was quickly cancelled out by another Costello point and the insurance score by Aidan O’Sullivan. The home side pointed with the last kick of the game but Rangers won by three points: Annascaul/Lispole 0-13, Laune Rangers 3-7.

Team: Robert Lynch, Pierce Tyther, Aidan Cox, George Evans, Neil O’Shea, John Tyther, Daniel Whittleton, Gearoid Joy, Daniel Macbeth, Manus Gallagher, David Costello (2-4), Ciarán Foyle, Aidan O’Sullivan (0-2), Eoghan O’Sullivan (1-1), John C O’Brien.

They now move on to the League Semi-Final stage, and take on Castleisland Desmonds at home in JP O’Sullivan Park this Friday evening 25th April at 6:30pm.

UNDER 16: Laune Rangers Under 16 played host to Kerins O`Rahillys on Monday 14th April at J.P O`Sullivan Park. The fine sunny evening allowed for some great football to be played by both sides. They say goals win games and yesterday proved just that as there was a total of 7 goals scored, 5 of these from Kerins O`Rahillys. Laune Rangers opened the scoring with a point from Jessie McCormick. This followed later with scores coming from Patrick Daly and Patrick Carey. Unfortunately Kerins O’Rahillys were stronger in the attack and scored two goals early in the first half and followed with another just before the half time whistle. At half-time the score stood at 3-06 to 0-05 to Kerins O`Rahillys. In the second half John Francis Grady was moved to mid-field and adapted very well. With Fiachra Clifford now playing a sweeper role and Jessie McCormack moving back to wing back it somewhat weakened the attack for Laune Rangers. Nevertheless our full forward line of Cian O Shea, Christian Fleming and Patrick Carey battled well and were unlucky on a few occasions. With a barrage of points and two goals from Rahillys they widened the gap further. Laune Rangers responded with two goals from Patrick Carey and John Francis Grady. Tiernan Clifford had to be replaced late into the game due to a knee injury. At the final whistle the score finished 2-08 to 5-14 to the boys from Tralee. Laune Rangers Team: P Ahern, JF Grady (1-0), T Clifford, D O`Shea, C Foley,D O`Sullivan, P Tyther, J Clifford, J Cox, J McCormick (0-1), P Daly (0-6),F Clifford, C. O`Shea, C Fleming, P Carey (1-1)

UNDER 14: Our U14s were in Co League action last Wednesday night. In Division 1, our side beat Legion on a score of 7-16 to 2-8. In Division 9, our side beat Spa on a score of 9-8 to 5-7. They then took part in Féile Peil na nÓg in Tralee last Saturday. They first took on Churchill in the Semi Final where they won after extra time by a score of 9-3 to 3-11, and progressed to the final against Austin Stacks. Having led for a good part of the first half, the extra time in the previous tie took its toll and the boys started to tire. This allowed Stacks to pull away and win with a final score of 6-8 to 2-3. Congratulations to our boys on making the final.
