B TEAM:- The long awaited County Junior League got underway on Friday evening, as Laune Rangers hosted one of two Dr Crokes teams in the competition. There was plenty of early drama as both sides were awarded penalties in the opening minutes. Both spot kicks were dispatched to the net – Roan Moriarty scoring for Rangers – as a second goal through Mike Frank Russell and points by Russell, Gabriel Griffin (2), Eamonn Carey & Gavin O’Shea (free from mark) had Rangers leading by 2-5 to 1-2 at the first water break. Dr Crokes added a second goal to narrow the gap between the sides, but Rangers kicked on, scoring further points through Mike Frank Russell (2) and Colm O’Shea to lead by seven at the break. Half Time Score:- Laune Rangers 2-10, Dr Crokes 2-3. Roan Moriarty, Mike Frank Russell & Gabriel Griffin in the third quarter, as Crokes began to close the gap with some well taken scores, to leave Rangers leading by 2-13 to 2-7 at the second waterbreak. There were goal chances for both sides as Vinny Costello pulled off a great save in the Laune Rangers goal, while Rangers rattled the crossbar at the other end. Gabriel Griffin (2) and Roan Moriarty pointed three in succession before Crokes replied back with three of their own. However, Laune Rangers would have the last say, when Gabriel Griffin topped off a great performance with a super goal. Full Time Score:- Laune Rangers B 3-16, Dr Crokes ‘Amber’ 2-10. SENIOR LADIES: Laune Rangers and Listowel Emmets played out a cracker of a Ladies Junior Championship match on Monday evening in JP O’Sullivan Park, with spoils shared at the Full Time whistle. Emmets took the lead with a goal by Ella Morris in the 4th minute, and held that lead going to the first half water break – Fodhla Houlihan (3, 1 free) points for Rangers matched by Laura Foley, Ally Buckley and Abby McMahon points for Emmets to give the visitors a 1-3 to 0-3 lead with a quarter played. Ciara O’Brien and Fodhla Houlihan (free) both knocked over points to reduce the gap to the minimum, but Emmets scored a second goal through Aoife Kennelly to stretch into a lead again. A pointed free by Fodhla Houlihan left a goal between the sides. Half Time Score:- Laune Rangers 0-6, Listowel Emmets 2-3. Rangers came out flying at the beginning of the second half – Fodhla Houlihan, Ciara O’Brien & Nessa Healy all pointing to level the game. A pointed free by Abby McMahon for Emmets was cancelled out by another Nessa Healy point to see the sides go into the second half water break all square at 0-10 to 2-4. Zara O’Doherty kicked a point immediately from the restart but Fodhla Houlihan scored her 7th point of the evening to level matters once more. A third Emmets goal by Aoife Kennelly put the visitors in the drivers seat in the 53rd minute, but Rangers took over for the remainder of the game. Kayleigh McGlashan scored an excellent point before Fodhla Houlihan forced an outstanding save from Rachel Mulvihill in the Emmets goal, as it looked to all that the ball was destined for the top corner of the net. Rachael Evans maintained her composure in heavy traffic to knock over a point to leave just a single point between the sides, and Ciara O’Brien ended a fantastic run to score and level the game before the final whistle was blown. Full Time Score:- Laune Rangers 0-14, Listowel Emmets 3-5. MINOR BOYS: The County Minor League – an U18 competition – returned after a 4 week hiatus on Saturday afternoon, with Laune Rangers making the short trip to Listry to take on Keel/Listry. Marc Clifford kicked the game’s first two points before Ruarí Murphy scored his team’s opening point. A well taken point by Callum Russell for Rangers was answered with another Ruairí Murphy point before Keel/Listry hit the net through Aaron O’Shea to give the home side the lead. Laune Rangers added pointed frees by Gearóid Hassett and Matthew Leslie to level the game, but Ruairí Murphy pointed his third of the afternoon to give the hosts the lead by 1-3 to 0-5 at the first half water break. Keith Evans & Jack Walsh (free) extended the lead for Keel/Listry before creating a second goal chance as Aaron O’Shea rattled the crossbar, while at the other end, Rory O’Connor ended a great run by having his shot saved before being chopped to the ground for what looked like a clear penalty that was waved off. Marc Clifford scored his third point of the game for the visitors, while Eoghan Hassett and Aaron O’Shea traded pointed frees before the break. Half Time Score:- Keel/Listry 1-6, Laune Ranger 0-7. Aaron O’Shea put a goal between the sides as he scored an early point, but that goal was soon found by Rangers as Marc Clifford finished excellently to the net to level matters. Rangers nearly scored a quickfire second goal, but Jack O’Sullivan’s shot to the near post was saved superbly by Gearóid Ladden. Eoghan Hassett scored two quick points following very similar runs from the left flank, but Jack Walsh pointed a free to leave Rangers leading by 1-9 to 1-8 at the second half water break. A Seán Cleary led defence gave Rangers a strong footing, and Gearóid Hassett and Matt Leslie (free) extended Rangers’ lead to three after the water break. However, Keel/Listry scored three in succession to level the game – Jack Walsh (free) and James Dowd (2) with the home side’s scores. Laune Rangers reacted well to being clawed back though, and soon scored their second goal to restore their lead – Gearóid Hassett with a fantastic run forward before passing across the square to Jack O’Sullivan, who claimed the ball well before some nice footwork and finish put the ball in the net. Aaron O’Shea had his pointed free cancelled out by a great Gearóid Hassett score, before late drama saw the ball dropped into the Laune Rangers goalmouth. Played in terrible weather conditions, the game waited until the 11th minute for its first score – a point for the home side – although Darragh Clifford had a shot at goal saved excellently by the Ardfert goalkeeper in the second minute. Conor Buckley pointed a free for Rangers to level matters in time for the first half water break. Adam O’Neill pointed Rangers ahead before Ardfert knocked over a free in return. From the resulting kickout, Rangers carried out a super move down the left flank to ultimately put Adam O’Neill through on goal and the forward made no mistake in finding the net for a great goal. Excellent points by Seánie Diggin and Darragh Clifford gave Rangers the lead by five at the break. Half Time Score:- Ardfert 0-2, Laune Rangers 1-4. Ardfert pointed a free in the early minutes of the second half but from there, Laune Rangers took over. Stevie Gannon and Darragh Clifford pointed before Adam O’Neill hit the net for a second time.
