SENIOR: Laune Rangers Seniors opened their season on Sunday afternoon with an overwhelming away defeat by Beaufort. The home side fielded a near full strength team that included a dozen of the Mid Kerry Championship winning team from 2017. Laune Rangers handed a Senior debut to goalkeeper Padraig Ahern, and named a number of players who were returning from long term absenses on the team – Cormac Johnston, Chris Riordan, Kevin O’Sullivan, John O’Shea all starting the game for Rangers – as a host of first team regulars were unavailable or rested. Beaufort controlled the game from the outset, and had 2-6 on the board before Rangers registered their first score with a John O’Shea pointed free. Another Beaufort point was added but John O’Shea (free) and Cian O’Shea kicked the final points of the opening half. Half Time Score:- Beaufort 2-7, Laune Rangers 0-3. John O’Shea (2, 1 free) and Shane Mangan managed to get points on the board for Rangers during a long second half, as Beaufort drove home their supremacy, scoring four more goals to add further gloss to the scoreline. Full Time Score:- Beaufort 6-15, Laune Rangers 0-6. Laune Rangers Team:- Padraig Ahern, Ronan Sayers, Cormac Johnston, Pierce Tyther, John Tyther, Chris Riordan, Kevin O’Sullivan, Shane Daly, Shane Mangan (0-1), John O’Shea (0-4, 3f), Padraig Murphy, David Costelloe, Cian O’Shea (0-1), Colm O’Shea, Eamonn Carey.
