The Laune Rangers Senior Ladies Team in Monday evening's County Junior A Championship Semi Final

B TEAM: Laune Rangers made it a clean sweep of their group in the County Junior League with a comprehensive win over neighbours Milltown/Castlemaine in JP O’Sullivan Park. The visitors opened the scoring with a point in the first play, but Ronan O’Shea & Gavin O’Shea both pointed to put Rangers ahead. Milltown/Castlemaine levelled with a point but Rangers took over from there – Colm O’Shea scoring three points (1 free) and Ronan O’Shea tapping into the net to leave the home side ahead by 1-5 to 0-2 at the first half water break. Colm O’Shea added to his tally with a point with Mike Frank Russell splitting the posts soon after, but Milltown scored their first goal soon after to close the gap, as an initial shot was saved well by Vinny Costello before the rebound was tapped in. Gavin O’Shea scored his second point but in doing so, injured himself and was replaced by Matt Leslie. Milltown/Castlemaine added a point before Colm O’Shea tapped in Rangers’ second goal before the short whistle. Half Time Score:- Laune Rangers 2-9, Milltown/Castlemaine 1-3. Colm O’Shea started the second half as he had finished the first – scoring a goal from 1 yard out as he reacted to a Matt Leslie shot that dropped short and knocked the ball in. Mike Frank Russell added a right footed point from 40 yards to two earlier left footed long range scores, but it was cancelled out by a Milltown point. Rangers introduced Pierce Tyther, John Sheehan and Morgan O’Sullivan early in the second half as Cormac Johnston, Mike Frank & Cormac Johnston were called ashore. Milltown scored a second goal before John Sheehan and Cian O’Shea scored excellent points to leave the hosts ahead by 3-12 to 2-4 at the second half water break. Milltown/Castlemaine’s best period of the game came immediately after the water break as they set up camp inside the Rangers 45, but had to settle for just two pointed frees as the Rangers backs wouldn’t budge. A great intercept by Darragh O’Shea marked the end of the Milltown attacking effort as Rangers quickly moved upfield, and a subsequent foul just outside the 45 was kicked over by Cian O’Shea with a great shot from the outside of his left boot. Milltown/Castlemaine scored two late points, but the final score of the game came from Morgan O’Sullivan who turned his man excellently before scoring from a tight angle. Full Time Score:- Laune Rangers 3-14, Milltown/Castlemaine 2-8. Laune Rangers:- Vincent Costello, James Lynch, Cormac Johnston, Darragh O’Shea, James Hurley, Rory O’Connor, Eric Dunlea, Shane Mangan, Patrick Daly, Eamonn Carey, Michael F Russell (0-3), Cian O’Shea (0-2, 1f), Ronan O’Shea (1-1), Colm O’Shea (2-4, 1f), Gavin O’Shea (0-2). UNDER 14 BOYS: Laune Rangers Under 14 Boys Blue team proved far too strong for their hosts Glenflesk on Wednesday evening in the final round of group games in the County League Division 1A. Rangers were on top from the first minute, and 60 seconds were barely on the clock when Darragh Clifford smashed the ball to the net for the game’s first goal – the pick up and spin move off his marker were hugely impressive as was the finish. A Conor Buckley point was cancelled out by Glenflesk’s first score before Stephen Gannon slotted a super point. Darragh Clifford followed up with a point from long range, while Logan Foley and Stephen Gannon added points to increase the lead. Logan Foley was rewarded for his industrious effort at wing forward with a goal, while Seán O’Donnell rattled the crossbar to deny him a goal of his own. A pointed free by Conor Buckley saw Laune Rangers head to the first half water break with a 2-6 to 0-1 lead. Glenflesk pointed a free before Rangers scored their third goal – Stephen Gannon with a great finish. Andrew Owens knocked over a point before Gannon added another. Eoin O’Connell had played provider for many of his teammates’ scores and was duly rewarded with a point of his own in the 25th minute, as was Logan Foley who was next to put the ball over the bar with a punched effort. Darragh Clifford scored another from distance, while Stephen Gannon followed up his fourth point with his second goal. Glenflesk scored another free but Rangers had the last say in the half as Conor Buckley scored another point. Half Time Score:- Glenflesk 0-3, Laune Rangers 4-13. Darragh Clifford added to his tally with another point, but Glenflesk finally hit a purple patch. They scored 1-4 without reply before Ryan Carey (free) and Seanie Diggin pointed for Rangers to leave the visitors ahead by 4-16 to 1-7 at the second half water break. Ryan Carey slotted a soccer style shot to the bottom corner of the net for Rangers’ fifth goal of the evening, while Niall Tadhg O’Brien scored his team’s final two points of the game. The home side responded with a late goal and two points of their own before the final whistle. Full Time Score:- Glenflesk 2-9, Laune Rangers 5-18. UNDER 12 GIRLS: Laune Rangers U12 Girls hosted Firies in the County League on Tuesday, September 8th. In a tough, physical game played in slippery conditions, Firies got the first score, but the Rangers defence held strong for the rest of the half allowing the midfield to win some ball. The forwards started to play better as the game went on, ending the first half ahead. Half Time Score:- Laune Rangers 0-4, Firies 0-3. Rangers were 0-9 to 0-4 ahead in the last quarter when Firies scored 1-2 without reply. Some really good forward play resulted in Rangers getting the final score to win by the minimum. Full Time Score:- Laune Rangers 0-10, Firies 1-6. This was an excellent team effort all round as all the panel of players were required to get the win.
