SENIOR MEN: Laune Rangers Seniors are in a mid season break of sorts, as they have no fixture until the first weekend in June with a trip to Finuge in the County Senior Football League. The game is currently fixed for Sunday, June 5th at 2pm in Finuge.

SENIOR LADIES: Laune Rangers Senior Ladies hosted Rathmore on Saturday afternoon in the County Intermediate Championship. A young Laune Rangers team was bolstered by the return of Kerry goalkeeper Edel Murphy while Captain Sarah Jane Joy started at midfield. Laune Rangers – with a number of Under 16s and minors on the field – played well in the opening half, highlighted by a Ciara O’Brien goal assisted by Kerry O’Sullivan after a fine team move. Kerry O’Sullivan had opened the scoring with an excellent point in the second minute and Laune Rangers continued to match Rathmore in the possession stakes, but the East Kerry outfit were more clinical with their chances and scored 3 first half goals to put them in charge at the break. The Half Time score:- Laune Rangers 1-1, Rathmore 3-5. Rathmore opened the second half with 2-2 in the first 6 minutes. Rangers replied in fine fashion, with first Kerry O’Sullivan and then Edel Murphy – moved to full forward at half time – scoring great goals for the home side. Katie Halpenny added a fine point for Laune Rangers, but Rathmore closed the game out with a further 1-5 to take the championship victory. Full Time:- Laune Rangers 3-2, Rathmore 6-12. The score line does no justice to the Laune Rangers side who have made huge strides in their development in recent months. The younger players, such as defenders Sarah Clifford, Kayleigh McGlashen and Kerry Under 16 captain Ciara O’Brien stepped up and looked very comfortable at Senior level, while Sarah Jane Joy and Edel Murphy led by example to put some excellent play together. However, special mention must be given to Kerry O’Sullivan, who returned to the team after a number of years away from the game and showed no lack of sharpness, scoring 1-1 and linked up well with the rest of her team. Laune Rangers:- Edel Murphy (1-0), Sarah Clifford, Laura Brennan, Ciara O’Sullivan, Ciara O’Brien (1-0), Kayleigh McGlashen, Nicole Moriarty, Sarah Clifford, Sarah Jane Joy (capt), Yvonne Sheehan, Kerry O’Sullivan (1-1), Katie Halpenny (0-1), Roisin O’Hara, Orla O’Sullivan, Alana Foley. Sub used: Lisa Mangan. Panel: Fiona Brennan, Nikki Clifford, Maria Rafferty.

COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP: Peter Crowley, John Tyther, and Daniel Macbeth all played for Mid Kerry on Sunday in the County SFC Round 1 win over Kilcummin. They face Dingle on Sunday next in Round 2. The game takes place at 3:30pm in JP O’Sullivan Park and is the second game in a double header at the track, with Milltown/Castlemaine facing East Kerry at 2pm.
