SENIOR: After an 100% run through the first half of the League, Laune Rangers have lost their second consecutive game to lose their place on top of the table & put their promotion chances at risk. Rangers were of course without Kerry U20 forward Fiachra Clifford who was among a half dozen regular starters on the absentee list, whereas Finuge were drawing from a full deck including Paul Galvin and hurling star Shane Conway. Rangers led early on as two Dáire Cleary goals following a pointed free by Finuge’s Pat Corridan. Paul Galvin and Jack O’Connor traded points before Ray Galvin scored Finuge’s first goal of the game. With fifteen minutes played, Laune Rangers led by 2-1 to 1-2. Finuge points by Darah Mackessey & Ray Galvin were sandwiched between Pa Daly & Kieran Doona points for Rangers before Finuge turned in a goal following a goalmouth scramble. Daragh O’Connor and Patrick Daly (free) added points to give Rangers the lead at the break. Half Time Score:- Laune Rangers 2-5, Finuge 3-8. Pat Corridan pointed a free to level the game before Ray Galvin put the visitors ahead. John Tyther kicked a great point at the other end to level matters again, with the sides level on 2-6 a piece with a quarter remaining. Patrick Daly put Rangers ahead with a point before Paul Galvin equalized for Finuge. Finuge struck the hammer blow in the 48th minute as Raymord Galvin finished well to the net for his second goal, and Shane Conway added another soon after. Dáire Cleary & Patrick Daly pointed frees before Patrick Carey came upfield to score a super point to leave Finuge ahead by the minimum. However, the visitors held on. Full Time Score:- Laune Rangers 2-10, Finuge 3-8. Playing without a number of regular starters certainly contributed to the loss on the evening. A bright note in the game was the introduction of Eoin Clifford for his Senior debut, and he looked at home as a Senior immediately. MINOR: Laune Rangers will take their place in the Quarter Finals of the County Minor Championship following defeat of Killarney Legion on Tuesday evening in Beaufort. Rangers got off to a slow start, with Legion scoring the first five points of the game through Darragh Lyne, William Shine (3) and Eoghan O’Sullivan. Rangers – after a few wides – finally got off the mark Gearóid Hassett scoring a fine point to leave Killarney Legion leading by 0-5 to 0-1 with fifteen minutes played. A Matthew Leslie point was cancelled out by William Shine’s 4th point for Legion, before Gearóid Hassett pointed again. The rest of the 2nd quarter was tight with defences coming out on top, but Rangers finished the half strongly. Gearóid Hassett scored a super goal to level matters – David Mangan & Evan Madden with outstanding passes in the buildup – before a pointed free by Matt Leslie with the last kick of the half put Rangers ahead. Half Time Score:- Laune Rangers 1-4, Killarney Legion 0-6. Legion pointed a free to level the game through Ethan O’Neill, but Matt Leslie (free) and Gearóid Hassett had Rangers leading by two. Legion responded well though, and a well worked goal finished by Ryan O’Grady gave the Killarney side the lead. Rangers wrestled the lead back through pointed frees by Ronan O’Shea & Matt Leslie, as the Legion side struggled to handle the Rangers forwards. The scores were level again with a Darragh O’Leary point for Legion, but Gabriel Griffin put Rangers ahead again with two great points. Matt Leslie & Darragh Lyne traded points, before Rangers struck a body blow as Gearóid Hassett hit the net from close range after great work by Ronan O’Shea. With fifteen minutes to play, Laune Rangers led 2-11 to 1-9. Rangers dominated the final quarter, as points by David Mangan & Ronan O’Shea increased the lead. Ryan O’Grady and Matt Leslie traded points before Legion scored two points to reduce the gap – Eoghan O’Sullivan with both scores. Rangers continued to press ahead, and Eoin Clifford got on the scoresheet with a super point – well deserved for a his efforts. Matt Leslie and Rory O’Connor added points before O’Connor scored Rangers third goal with the final kick of the game. Full Time Score:- Laune Rangers 3-17, Killarney Legion 1-12. After a slow start, Rangers put in a fantastic effort to ensure passage to the County Championship Quarter Finals. It is tough to pick a stand out performance with every player contributing. However, Eoin Clifford put in a super shift from start to finish, and his point at the end was the score of the game. Laune Rangers:- Jack Evans, Seán Cleary, Matt Reenstierna, Evan Madden, Eoin Clifford (0-1), Rory O’Connor (1-1), James Hurley, Roan Moriarty, David Mangan (0-1), Matt Leslie (0-7), Gabriel Griffin (0-2), Gearóid Hassett (2-3), Ronan O’Shea (0-2), Stephen Sealy, Shane Doona.
