SENIOR A: There was no Senior game this past weekend. The next Senior game is at home to Templenoe in the County Senior Football League Division Two. The game takes place on Sunday, September 27th at 2pm in JP O’Sullivan Park.
MINOR: Our Minor side hosted An Gaeltacht in the Central Minor League on Monday Sept 7th. The game was played at 13-a-side as the visitors were short of a full team. An Gaeltacht missed a lot of chances in the early stages and it was the home side that opened the scoring in the 7th minute with a point from Fiachra Clifford. An Gaeltacht took control after that though, and were first to find the net for a goal in the 29th minute to take a four point lead. However, some great play from Christian Fleming saw him beat his marker and pass through to John Chris O’Brien who slotted the ball to the net. Earlier points from Daniel Whittleton and Cian O’Shea – both excellently struck – saw Rangers go in at the break a point behind. Half Time score: Laune Rangers 1-3, An Gaeltacht 1-4. The Westerners extended the lead with an early point after the break but a varied hat-trick of points from Patrick Daly (one 45, one free, and one from play) gave Laune Rangers the lead. This didn’t last long however, as another Gaeltacht goal put the visitors back in front. The lead was exchanged again as Patrick Daly ( 2 frees) and Patrick Carey pointed for Rangers to put them ahead by 1-9 to 2-5. An Gaeltacht retook the lead once more and did not relinquish it as they outscored their hosts by 4 points to 2 in the final quarter – Patrick Daly and substitute Daire Cleary tagging on the Rangers scores before the end – and An Gaeltacht claimed victory by the minimum. Final score: Laune Rangers 1-11, An Gaeltacht 2-9. Laune Rangers: Rob Lynch, Pierce Tyther, Cathal Doyle, Darragh O’Sullivan, Patrick Carey (0-1), Daniel Whittleton (0-1), Neil O’Brien, John F O’Grady, Cian O’Shea (0-1), Fiachra Clifford (0-1), Christian Fleming, Patrick Daly (0-6, 4f +45m), John C O’Brien. Subs: Darragh O’Shea, Daragh O’Connor, Daire Cleary (0-1).
