SENIOR: Laune Rangers maintained their unbeaten start to the County League Division 4 campaign with a win over Waterville in Con Keating Park, Caherciveen on Sunday afternoon. Early points from Kieran Doona & Dáire Cleary (free) put Rangers into an early lead, before adding a speculative goal through Patrick Daly. Barry O’Dwyer and Niall Fitzgerald (2) pointed for the hosts but Dáire Cleary and John Tyther kicked points at the other end to leave Rangers leading by 1-4 to 0-3 with a fifteen minutes played. Points from John Tyther, Dáire Cleary and Patrick Daly extended Rangers’ lead but Adam O’Dwyer & Niall Fitzgerald pointed for Waterville to stay in tough. However, Rangers were much stronger in the latter stages of the first half, with Daragh O’Connor adding a super point from out wide. After Jason Browne and John Tyther had denied Waterville with two goal-line saves, the Killorglin side kicked on and scored their second goal of the game – Dáire Cleary tapping in after the Waterville goalkeeper Patrick O’Dwyer had saved from Patrick Daly. Cleary added two further points for Rangers to leave them ahead by 11 at the break. Half Time Score:- Waterville 0-5, Laune Rangers 2-10. Waterville had halved the deficit by the 39th minute, as points from Fergal Cronin & Sam O’Dwyer supplemented a goal by Barry O’Dwyer. However, Rangers added their third goal as a lapse in concentration at the back saw Shane Doona take a quick free and put Pa Daly in the clear, and the forward rounded the goalkeeper to tap into an empty net. With fifteen minutes to play, Laune Rangers led by 3-10 to 1-7. Points for Waterville through O’Dwyers Adam (free) & Barry (2, 1 free) restored the difference between the sides to six points, but Kieran Doona pointed to stem the tide. Eoin O’Sullivan pointed for Waterville, but Shane Doona responded with the best score of the game with a superb point from distance. Adam O’Dwyer and Dáire Cleary traded pointed frees before a 65th minute goal through Niall Fitzgerald gave the South Kerry side a glimmer of hope. However, Rangers were able to close out the game and a Shane Doona point turned out to be the final score of the day. Full Time Score:- Waterville 2-12, Laune Rangers 3-14.
