SENIOR: Listry hosted Laune Rangers on Sunday afternoon in the County Senior Football League, and the home side came out on top to claim the all important League points. Listry were without Barry Keane on the day, but had two former Kerry Minors in their full forward line in Gary O’Sullivan & Ronan Buckley. Laune Rangers, on the other hand, were without up to 15 of this year’s squad as injury, inter-County duty, exams, & summer migration have all taken their toll. Listry got off to a lightning start, scoring goals with their first two possessions through Cain Bradley and Gary O’Sullivan. This took the wind out of the Rangers, but they started to create some chances. Dáire Cleary scored two points for Rangers, although Ronan Buckley also put the ball over for Listry’s first point. Rangers were wasteful with their chances in the first quarter, with five wides stopping the scoreline from getting any closer to parity. With 15 minutes played, Listry led by 2-1 to 0-2. Derry Ahern added to Listry’s lead with a point, but Rangers responded well with points from Podge Murphy and Dáire Cleary. The home side were quite wasteful in the second half, with two goal chances flashing wide with 4 more point attempts sailing wide. They did add on two more points before the break, however, with Ronan Buckley & Gary O’Sullivan scoring to see their side go in with a lead of two clear goals at the short whistle. Half Time Score:- Listry 2-4, Laune Rangers 0-4. Laune Rangers would have hoped to begin the second half better than they had the first, but Listry had other ideas and had the ball in the net for a third time with the opening play – corner back Danny Wrenn finishing a good run with an excellent finish. John O’Shea and Joseph Clifford traded points to maintain the three goal difference, but Rangers rattled the net themselves in the 40th minute. Dáire Cleary struck the net for a great finish, but saw it called back as the referee had blown for a penalty in the lead up. Cleary stepped up to the penalty spot himself and struck the top corner of the net. Anthony Sweeney (free) and Joseph Clifford points bookended points by Rangers’ John O’Shea and Dáire Cleary to see Listry leading by 3-7 to 1-7 with a quarter to play. Listry scored three unanswered points through Cain Bradley, Derry Ahern & Aaron McCarthy put an end to any chance of a Rangers comeback, but Rangers kept their heads up & went in search of scores to close the gap. Dáire Cleary pointed four times (2 frees) to bring his own tally to 1-8, but the final whistle was blown to give Listry the win. Full Time Score:- Listry 3-10, Laune Rangers 1-11. The consistancy of playing together gave Listry a distinct advantage on the day, as Laune Rangers are yet to put the same 15 on the field in successive games this season. Best for Listry was Cain Bradley who scored 1-1 from wing back while Gary O’Sullivan was dangerous throughout.. Best for Rangers was Dáire Cleary who was outstanding for Rangers in attack. Meanwhile the midfield of Shane Daly & Jack O’Connor – both of whom were returning from injury – put in a big effort while Kieran Doona showed no signs of rustiness on his return to Senior County League football.. Listry:- Colm Counihan, Danny Wrenn (1-0), Kieran Murphy, Kevin Courtney, Billy O’Brien, Anthony Kennedy, Cain Bradley (1-1), Jimmy O’Leary, Stephen Brosnan, Derry Ahern (0-2), Anthony Sweeney (0-1f), Aaron McCarthy (0-1), Gary O’Sullivan (1-1), Ronan Buckley (0-2), Joseph Clifford (0-2). Subs: Darragh O’Shea, Brian Kennedy, Cian O’Donoghue, Paudie Horgan. Laune Rangers:- Jason Browne, Ronan Sayers, Jonathan Carey, Cormac Johnston, Kevin O’Sullivan, Chris Riordan, Michael O’Sullivan, Jack O’Connor, Shane Daly, John O’Shea (0-2), Kieran Doona, Dáire Cleary (1-8, 1p 3f), Eamonn Carey, Padraig Murphy (0-1), Colm O’Shea. Subs: Pierce Tyther, Darragh O’Shea, Gavin O’Shea, Patrick Daly.
