Laune Rangers 0-9, Milltown/Castlemaine 0-12
Laune Rangers hosted Milltown/Castlemaine in the County Junior League on Friday evening. The tie proved to be very entertaining throughout, with both B teams kicking some great scores on a windy evening at JP O’Sullivan Park. Scores were tied at half time as early Milltown/Castlemaine scores from Jerome Flynn, Alan Looney & Gavin McKenna were answered by points by Gavin O’Shea and Declan Cawley to leave the visitors leading by the minimum at the quarter mark. Milltown/Castlemaine doubled their score production in just 5 minutes through Seamus Dowd (2) and Nigel Wren, but a Rangers brought the scores level by the break as they scored four points – Cormac Johnston with a long run from full back, Gavin O’Shea with a great point from outside his right boot, Kieran Doona (free), & a goal chance by Paul Browne that flashed over the bar – made the score at half time:- Laune Rangers B 0-6, Milltown/Castlemaine B 0-6.
Rangers took their first lead of the game shortly after the break from a Kieran Doona point, but it was cancelled out by Wayne Coffey for the men in green. Scores were traded between the sides once more, when Mark Healy gave Rangers the lead only for it to be cancelled out by a Jamie O’Shea free. Jack McCarthy pointed to give Milltown/Castlemaine the lead by 0-9 to 0-8 with a quarter of the game to play, and substitute Colin ‘Jeff’ McKenna doubled the lead for his side. Kieran Doona pointed a free for Rangers following the black card dismissal of Milltown’ Mark Wren, but a Jamie O’Shea point for the visitors left Rangers seeking a goal with a minute to play. It was not to be though,& with the last kick of the game, Jack McCarthy pointed a 45’ to make the final score:- Laune Rangers B 0-9, Milltown/Castlemaine 0-12.
