Our Senior side travelled south to Kenmare on Sunday in Round 7 of the County League. In dull conditions, Rangers got off to a flying start from a well taken John O’Shea goal in the 2nd minute. Pa Joy pointed for Rangers before O’Shea split the posts with a well taken point from near the left sideline. A Shane McSweeney point was sandwiched between 4 Kenmare points to leave Rangers leading by 1-3 to 0-4 at the end of the first quarter. Mike Frank Russell slotted two frees to increase Laune Rangers lead before our two minor players, Daniel Macbeth & John Tyther, got in on the act with a point each. Kenmare added to point late in the half to put the score at the break; Kenmare 0-5, Laune Rangers 1-7.
Laune Rangers flew out of the blocks after half time. Points from Shane McSweeney (2), John O’Shea (2) & a Mike Frank Russell free gave Rangers a now commanding lead & while Kenmare added two points of their own, Russell scored a great point from play to give Rangers a 1-13 to 0-7 lead with a quarter of the game remaining. Kieran Crowley received a black card for what was deemed a cynical foul & tempers frayed when Kenmare had a man sent off for a kick on a grounded John O’Shea. They also received a black card for a cynical foul on Ryan Keane. Kenmare scored two points which were duly cancelled out through Russell and Pa Joy. Another Kenmare point followed but Laune Rangers closed out the game well, as substitute Geoffrey O’Mahony and Shane McSweeney (2) scored points to make the final score Kenmare 0-10, Laune Rangers 1-18.
