The Division 5 derby game between Laune Rangers ‘B’ and Cromane took place on a wet Sunday afternoon last in the J.P. O’Sullivan Park, Killorglin.
The home side were looking for their first points of this year’s League campaign while the visitors were hoping to extend their unbeaten run. It was the visitors who took the points after a 0-11 to 1-05 victory over their neighbours.
The opening half was a tight affair with both sides pretty much tit-for-tat throughout the first half. Laune Rangers’ corner forward Gavin O’Shea opened the scoring with a point in the opening minute. Cromane replied through Paul Patrick O’Sullivan with 4 minutes on the clock.
Gavin’s older brother Colm pointed a side line free with 6 minutes played to put Laune Rangers a point to the good. Again the lead didn’t last long as Paul Patrick O’Sullivan was on hand for the visitors to level the game at 0-02 a piece with 12 minutes played.
Colm O’Shea and Seán ‘Bán’ O’Sullivan swapped frees in the minutes that followed to let the game 0-03 each inside the final minutes of the opening half.
O’Shea pointed another free for the home side in the 22nd minute to put Rangers a point to the good once more.
In the final action of the half, good work from Mikey Houlihan saw Donnacadh Walsh through to register his first score of the afternoon and the game was level at the short whistle. Half-time score: Laune Rangers B 0-04 to 0-04 Cromane.
Mikey Houlihan got his own name on the score board with a lovely point to open the second half scoring and put Cromane in front for the first time in the game.
Further points from Donnacadh Walsh and Paul Patrick O’Sullivan saw Cromane hold a 0-07 to 0-04 lead 8 minutes into the second half.
Gavin O’Shea closed the visitors lead some what in the 11th minute to let the game 0-07 to 0-05. Cromane replied through Donnacadh Walsh and it was a three point game once more, 0-08 to 0-05.
The game’s only goal came in the 20th minute when Colm O’Shea found the net for the home side to level the game at 1-05 to 0-08 with just under 10 minutes to play.
Cromane pushed on in the final minutes and scores from Michéal Shaughnessy, Mikey Houlihan and Paul Patrick O’Sullivan ensured the win for the visitors. Full-time score: Cromane 0-11 to 1-05 Laune Rangers B.
