Killorglin was the venue for this Division 5 clash between Asdee and Laune Rangers B. Laune Rangers were in search of their first win of the 2012 season while Asdee were hoping to build on last week’s win over Fossa. It was to be the visitors who took the points on this occassion, giving them a share of top spot.
It was the visitors who took first spoils with a well-worked goal from Charlie Dalton. Wing forward Michéal Walsh passed off to Eoin Kennedy who spotted Charlie Dalton running in on goal. Dalton made no mistake in finding the back of the Rangers net putting them a goal to the good with 7 minutes of the first half played. In the 9th minute, John Ahern got Laune Rangers out of the traps with a long range point from out around the 45′ yard line to close Asdee’s lead to two points, 0-01 to 1-00. Asdee continued to attack and scored 1-03 in the minutes that followed. The goal coming from centre forward, Noel Long, who drilled the ball low and hard passed Vinnie Costello in the Laune Rangers goal; points from Mike Breen, Eoin Kennedy and a Paul O’Carroll free left the score 2-03 to 0-01 in the visitors favour going into the final 10 minutes of the first half. Laune Rangers dominated the remainder of the half with points from Darren O’Riordan and Jack O’Connor (3 frees) leaving the score 2-03 to 0-05 at the short whistle.
Both sides swapped points in the opening minutes of the second half with Eoin Kennedy converting a free for the visitors and Trevor West putting his name on the score sheet for the home side. Eoin Kennedy extended Asdee’s lead some more with a well taken long range effort to leave the score 2-05 to 0-06 with 3 minutes of the second half played. Asdee continued to surge forward and points from Eoin Kennedy and Charlie Dalton (45′) left Asdee 7 points ahead mid-way through the second half. Noel Long added to Asdee’s tally with a point before Charlie Dalton went through for the visitors third and final goal of the game. A quick thinking Eoin Kennedy sent a high ball into the square which was collected by Dalton, Dalton found the net and raised Asdee’s third green flag of the game leaving the score 3-08 to 0-06 going into the final 10 minutes of the game. Laune Rangers’ John Ahern pointed from a free but Asdee sealed the win with two final points from Eoin Kennedy and Noel Long. Final score in Killorglin, Laune Rangers 0-07 to 3-10 Asdee.
