Rivals can not be seperated on scoreboard in Junior League Opener

Milltown/Castlemaine 1-7, Laune Rangers 1-7

Laune Rangers & Milltown/Castlemaine faced off on Tuesday evening last in the Mid Kerry Junior (B Team) league.  The conditions in Milltown were less than ideal but Rangers got off to a good start, as Patrick Daly pointed to give the visitors the lead inside the opening minute.  Jack McCarthy levelled for the hosts before Patrick Daly pointed a free on the quarter mark to give Rangers the slightest advantage after 15 minutes – by 0-2 to 0-1.  Laune Rangers fullback Michael O’Sullivan found his way upfield to score a point, but in the 22nd minute, Milltown/Castlemaine took the lead when Seamus Dowd slid to get his toe to a rebounding ball and direct it into the net, after his initial shot had been stopped by Rangers netminder Jason Browne.  This one point lead was maintained until the break, after points had been exchanged between Gavin O’Shea & Kieran Doona (Rangers) and Seamus Dowd & Jerome Flynn (Milltown/Castlemaine).  The Half Time Score:- Laune Rangers 0-5, Milltown Castlemaine 1-3.

Rangers restored their lead two minutes after the resumption.  Declan Cawley defeated Milltown goalkeeper Kevin Tangney with a lob shot, that may have been designed to pass over the cross bar instead of under it.  Patrick Daly slotted a free before Jerome Flynn matched it with a placed ball point of his own, and Gavin Horan reduced the difference between the sides with a well taken point to leave the score with 15 minutes remaining:- Laune Rangers 1-6, Milltown Castlemaine 1-5.  A super Daniel Macbeth point from long distance put Rangers two points ahead with ten minutes to play, but a late rally by the hosts got them level – Jerome Flynn with a free before Gavin Horan slotted the leveller.  The final whistle was blown on a very entertaining game in bad conditions, and the sides were level.  Full Time score: Laune Rangers 1-7, Milltown/Castlemaine 1-7.
