The opening exchanges were a close affair, and scores were level after 10 minutes at 0-5 to 1-2 – Bernie Breen (0-2), Sinead O’Connor, Maryann Doherty and Sarah Houlihan for Rangers, while Michelle O’Sullivan and Caroline McCarthy pointed and Denise Burns found the net for ISG. Laune Rangers stretched out in front in the second quarter though, and by the short whistle they were twelve points ahead. Two goals – one from the penalty spot by Amy Foley and the other finished by Annmarie O’Donoghue – gave the home side a commanding lead as points were added by Norina O’Callaghan, Sarah Houlihan (2,1f), Patrice Dennehy (3, 1f), Sinead O’Connor (2), Cliona Coffey. A Caroline McCarthy free opened the second half for Inbhear Scéine but the remainder was dominated by the home side as they closed the game out as a contest in the third quarter. The lead was extended with a range of scores including goals by Sarah Houlihan and a second Amy Foley penalty, while points were added by Houlihan (3), Bernie Breen (4), Patrice Dennehy (2), Cliona Coffey and Sinead O’Connor, while Caroline McCarthy, Michelle O’Sullivan & Laura O’Sullivan kicked consolation points for their side. The County players for Laune Rangers shone through in this game as both the scoring and range of distribution by Bernie Breen, Patrice Dennehy and Sarah Houlihan punished every mistake by the visitors. Meanwhile Sinead O’Connor was a constant threat to the Inbhear Sceine defence. However, the Player of the Match was edged by Amy Foley at centre back for Rangers. She calmly dispatched two penalties with ease, but it was were defensive leadership that stopped the ISG attack time after time and ignited the counter attacks that punished the visitors so often. All in all, this was an impressive performance by the Killorglin side and they now move on to the Senior Club Final against Southern Gaels.
