Mid Kerry Senior Football League, Round 2 - Sunday 2nd February 2020

Laune Rangers: 0-08

Beaufort: 2-14

A depleted Laune Rangers hosted Beaufort in Round 2 of the Mid Kerry Senior Football League in a very cold and windswept Cloon on Sunday afternoon. The visitors, who made the better use of the strong wind that blew straight down the field, ran out victorious at the final whistle.

It was Beaufort who opened the scoring in the 2nd minute, with a point from corner forward, Daragh Coffey. Laune Rangers, who had the wind in their favour for the opening half, answered with a converted free from the boot of Colm O’Shea in the 3rd minute. Two points in as many minutes from Liam Carey saw Beaufort lead 0-03 to 0-01 in the 5th minute of the opening half. Patrick Daly pointed for the home side in the 10th minute to let the minimum between the sides, 0-03 to 0-02. Colm O’Shea levelled the game in the 16th minute with another pointed free after Cormac Johnston worked hard to win back possession for the home side. Daragh Coffey (Beaufort) and David Costello (Laune Rangers) swapped scores in the minutes that followed to let the game level at 0-04 a piece in the 21st minute of the opening half. Beaufort finished the half strong with another point from Daragh Coffey as well as a Danny Healy effort. Beaufort went in for their first goal at the stroke of half-time, from the boot of Mark Neary, to let the score at the short whistle; Laune Rangers 0-04 to 1-06 Beaufort.

Laune Rangers registered the opening score of the second half with a point from play for Colm O’Shea from the throw in. Beaufort continued to push on, in what was a very lack-lustre 2nd half, and made good use of the wind at their backs notching up a further 3 points from Liam Carey (2nd minute), Daragh Coffey (7th minute) and Michael O’Sullivan (12th minute) to lead 1-09 to 0-05 mind-way through the second half. A 17th minute pointed free from Colm O’Shea was cancelled out by a Daragh Coffey effort for the visitors and it was 1-10 to 0-06 heading in to the final 10 minutes. David Costello and Gavin O’Shea pointed for the home side in the closing minutes but points from Liam Carey(2), Cormac Joy(1) and Daragh Coffey(1) as well as Beaufort’s second goal of the afternoon, a fine shot taken by full forward Liam Carey, saw Beaufort run out victorious on a score line of Laune Rangers 0-08 to 2-14 Beaufort.
