Laune Rangers: 0-05, Glenbeigh/Glencar: 3-16

Laune Rangers will be disappointed with their performance in the opening game of the 2019 season against Glenbeigh/Glencar in Round 1 of the Mid Kerry Senior League. Played in Cloon on Sunday afternoon, the visitors led 2-08 to no score at half time. Glenbeigh/Glencar continued to push on in the second half winning comfortably on a score line of 3-16 to 0-05.

Tommy Cahill was on form for the visitors, opening his and Glenbeigh/Glencar’s account with 1-01 in the opening two minutes. Midfielder Colin McGillycuddy palmed the ball to the back of the Laune Rangers net in the 25th minute of the half for the visitors second of the afternoon. Points from Caolim Teahan, Stephen O’Sullivan along with a fisted effort from Jack Brosnan were included in Glenbeigh/Glencar’s opening half scores to let the score at the short whistle, 2-08 to 0-00.

Laune Rangers’ substitute & Senior debutant Mark O’Connor got his side’s opening score in the 2nd minute of the second half before Caolim Teahan, Tommy Cahill and Kieran Courtney pointed for the visitors to extend their lead some more. Tommy Cahill went in for Glenbeigh/Glencar’s third goal in the 7th minute of the half to let the score 3-11 to 0-01.

Further Glenbeigh/Glencar points from Colin McGillycuddy, Jack Brosnan and Jason McKenna extended their lead. Laune Rangers’ points coming from Darragh O’Connor, David Costello and Eamonn Carey before Tommy Cahill put over the last of the afternoon to leave the final score 3-16 to 0-05.

While the performance in the opening game of the season will be disappointing to Rangers, it is hard to read too much into the result as Glenbeigh/Glencar fielded a team much closer to their first XV than Laune Rangers. Rangers gave Senior debuts on the day to Oisin Daly and Mark O’Connor, Aidan Cox returned from an 18 month injury layoff, while Liam Quirke returns after a 3 year spell in New York and Morgan O’Sullivan got his first start under his belt after a number of years of injury/working away from Killorglin.
