County Senior Football League Division Four Round 6:- Laune Rangers vs Duagh. 16/06/2019

Laune Rangers 1-8, Duagh 0-8

The top two in Division Four faced off in JP O’Sullivan Park on Sunday afternoon, as Laune Rangers hosted Duagh in Round 6 of the County League. It was the home side that came out on top on the day to maintain their unbeaten record.

A great start to the game gave Rangers a six point lead in the early stages. Early pointed frees by Fiachra Clifford and Dáire Cleary were followed by a well taken Daragh O’Connor point from play, before Dáire Cleary capitalized on a great pass by Shane Daly to beat his marker and slot the ball past Duagh ‘keeper Jer Kelly for a great goal in the 7th minute. A pointed 45’ by Nigel O’Connor got Duagh on the scoreboard and with fifteen minutes played, Laune Rangers led by 1-3 to 0-1.

Dáire Cleary pointed a free to restore the six point lead for Rangers, before the visitors were reduced to 14 men in the 20th minute when Kieran Lucey was dismissed. Points were traded between Duagh’s Ed Stack (free) and Patrick Carey late in the half, before Rangers found themselves down to 14 also as Shane McSweeney received his marching orders just before the short whistle. Half Time Score:- Laune Rangers 1-5, Duagh 0-2.

Duagh were revitalized in the second half, scoring points through Nigel O’Connor and Micheal Kirby. In a low scoring third quarter, Jason Browne came upfield to score from the 45metre line to leave Rangers leading by 1-6 to 0-4 with fifteen minutes remaining.

Substitute Seán Broderick pointed a free for Duagh to reduce the gap, before the two stand-out scores of the game were kicked – Jack O’Connor pointing for Rangers & Anthony Maher responding in style at the other end. Seán Broderick and Anthony Maher added further points to leave just two between the sides going into additional time, but the final score of the game went to Laune Rangers’ Shane Doona to leave a goal between the teams at the final whistle. At the half way points of the League, Laune Rangers remain top of the Division 4 table as a result of this win. They travel to Castlegregory for Round 7 on the weekend of June 29th/30th.
