Laune Rangers 1-8, Keel 0-11

Spoils were shared between the two Mid Kerry sides in the County League Division Three tie on Saturday evening. The visitors were without Barth Murphy & the injured Gavin Evans, while Jack O’Connor, Dáire Cleary, Daragh O’Connor & Sean Arthurs joined the long list of absentees for Rangers that included County players Peter Crowley & Fiachra Clifford.

In a low scoring first half, Keel led by 0-3 to nil after 15 minutes with points from Gary Sayers (free), Tommy Buckley & Aaron Murphy (free).

Laune Rangers registered the next two points through James Lynch & David Costelloe, but both could have been goals – Lynch punching the ball at close range & Costelloe side-footing from 10 yards only for the ball to clear the crossbar on both occasions. Luke Flynn & Aaron Murphy added points for Keel but Rangers replied with points from Colm O’Shea & James Lynch to leave the minimum between the sides at the break. Half Time Score:- Laune Rangers 0-4, Keel 0-5.

Keel began the second half as they did the first, and scored 4 unanswered points through Martin Burke, Colm O’Neill, Luke Flynn and Aaron Murphy (free) to take a five point lead into the final quarter.

Kieran Doona pointed twice (1 free) to leave three between the sides before Cian O'Shea put an excellent pass into David Costelloe – himself playing his first game since April – and the forward smashed the ball to the net to level the game with 10 minutes to play as Keel full-back James Foley received his second yellow card and was dismissed in the lead up.

Dylan Prendergast nudged Keel ahead with a point, only for Cian O’Shea to level matters shortly after. Gary Sayers and Shane Daly (free) traded points to maintain the stalemate with regulation time expiring. Both sides would have expected some additional time to be added to the end of the game, but with less than a minute played and with Rangers on the attack, the final whistle was blown to see the game finish level. Full Time Score:- Laune Rangers 1-8, Keel 0-11.

For Rangers, Johnny Carey settled into a new position at centre back with ease, while Darran O’Riordan made his first Senior appearance since 2014 but looked comfortable at the back. At the other end of the age-spectrum, Conor Murphy was introduced in the second half for his Senior debut.
