Laune Rangers reach Mid Kerry League Final

Laune Rangers 2-12, Glenbeigh/Glencar 1-6

Laune Rangers defeated Glenbeigh/Glencar on Sunday morning in their fourth game of the Mid Kerry Senior League. The All Ireland Junior Champions began with a depleted team, as a number of their 1st team took their place on the substitutes bench. Laune Rangers were also missing a number of players, such as David Costelloe, Connor Clarke, Maurice Foley & Shane Daly.

Laune Rangers had the aid of a stiff breeze in the first half and made full us of it, taking a 1-6 to nil lead in the first 18 minutes – Colm O’Shea (3 frees), Jack O’Connor, Shane McSweeney and John Tyther pointing while Tyther also struck a well taken goal. All Ireland Minor winner Caolim Teahan got his side off the mark with a free in the 20th minutes but a pair of quick-fire points from Jack O’Connor and John Tyther. Caolim Teahan took off on a mazy run from the right flank and beat three Rangers defenders before his final shot was saved excellently by goalkeeper Jason Browne. Colm O’Shea added a free before Rangers scored their second goal, as Eamonn Carey judged the bounce from Colm O’Shea’s long pass better than his marker, before turning and slotting the ball to the net. The visitors added two frees through Kieran Cahalane and Caolim Teahan before the break. The score at Half Time:- Laune Rangers 2-9, Glenbeigh/Glencar 0-3.

Glenbeigh/Glencar introduced some ‘big guns’ at Half Time with Colin McGillicuddy, Pa Kilkenny, & Gavan O’Grady all taking the field in time for the restart & Jack Brosnan coming on 5 minutes into the half. This gave fresh impetus to the away side, but scores were hard to find for either team. Jack Brosnan and Jack O’Connor trading points before Colm O’Shea pointed another free for Rangers. Laune Rangers were reduced to fourteen players as Pierce Tyther received his second yellow card in the 50th minute, and Gavan O’Grady punished the hosts even further by blasting the resulting free to the top corner of the net. A John Sheehan point for Rangers was sandwiched between a Gavan O’Grady brace but there was to be no further score in the game. Glenbeigh’s Stephen O’Sullivan received his marching orders after picking up his second yellow card late on, and the final whistle was blown to see Rangers win their fourth game in the competition & cement their place in the Mid Kerry League Final. Full Time score:- Laune Rangers 2-12, Glenbeigh/Glencar 1-6.
