Laune Rangers beaten by Keel in Mid Kerry League

Keel 1-18, Laune Rangers 0-13

Laune Rangers travelled to Keel on Tuesday evening for a rearranged fixture in the Mid Kerry Senior League – the final game in the league phase of the competition. Laune Rangers, having won their other games in the competition, had already qualified for the final before this fixture.

Rangers started well, and took a four point lead in the opening minutes through Mike Frank Russell, Colm O’Shea (2, 1 free) & Connor Clarke, with Clarke coming very close to a goal also only to see his 3rd minute shot clip the upright and go wide. Points from Tommy Buckley & Thomas Ladden got Keel up and running but Aidan Cox and Connor Clarke nullified those scores to see Rangers leading by 0-6 to 0-2 with a quarter played.

Keel played much better for the remainder of the half and, but for a solitary Clarke point, the hosts dominated and were level before the break with points coming from Aaron Murphy (3, 2 frees), Gary Sayers & James Nagle. Connor Clarke hit the woodwork again late on with a bullet of a shot that rattled the crossbar and was cleared to safety, but Colm O’Shea pointed Rangers ahead just before the short whistle. Half Time Score:- Keel 0-7, Laune Rangers 0-8.

Connor Clarke pointed his fourth of the game shortly after the restart, but Keel were much hungrier in the second half, dominating at midfield and scoring five unanswered points – Gary Sayers (2 frees), Aaron Cahillane, Terry O’Sullivan & James Nagle all on target – to see the hosts leading by 0-12 to 0-9 with 15 minutes to play.

Rangers used their full complement of substitutes during the second half, as Keel powered on to make sure of the win. Rangers pointed through Jack O’Connor, Colm O’Shea (2 frees) & Patrick Carey but Keel made full sure of their victory, with an Aaron Murphy goal putting the gloss on a deserved win with points also coming from Dylan Prendergast, Aaron Murphy (2), Luke Flynn, & James Nagle & Tommy Buckley. Laune Rangers had a late goal chance by Patrick Carey saved by a tightly packed defence. Full Time Score:- Keel 1-18, Laune Rangers 0-13.
