Junior side win at home

Laune Rangers 'B' 2-10, Dr Crokes 'C' 2-5

Weather conditions were far from ideal on Bank Holiday Monday evening as Laune Rangers ‘B’ faced Dr Crokes ‘C’ in the County Junior League. Playing with a strong breeze in the opening half, Crokes had 2 goals and a point on the board before Laune Rangers registered their first score with a Cian O’Shea free. Laune Rangers had much the better of the play in the first period, and Eamonn Carey almost finished a great run for a goal, but he saw his shot flash off the crossbar and away from danger to leave the visitors ahead by 2-1 to 0-1 with a quarter played.

Dr Crokes added two points while a late Daniel Macbeth free was cancelled out by the Killarney side before the break. Half Time score:- Laune Rangers 0-2, Dr Crokes 2-4.

Laune Rangers had the wind at their backs for the second half, and they made full use of it to eat into their opponent’s lead. Cian O’Shea pointed first, before Daniel Macbeth kicked an excellent right footed point from near the sideline. James Lynch was fouled just outside the square and was rewarded by slotting the free himself, before Rangers scored their first goal – Cian O’Shea getting his fist to a high ball dropping to the edge of the square from Daniel Macbeth to reduce the gap to just two points. John Francis O’Grady marked his return to action with a long-range point, before Dr Crokes got their first and only point of the half with a free to see Rangers trailing by 2-5 to 1-6 with a quarter to play.

Rangers had the full complement of substitutes at their disposal and their ability to freshen up the team with the wind advantage saw them home in the final quarter. Rangers second goal came from Eamonn Carey, who made up for his earlier near-miss to find the top corner with an excellent finish. Cian O’Shea and Daniel Macbeth added to their tallies with great points before Neil O’Brien got upfield from the back to get himself on the scoresheet. Cian O’Shea pointed a free for the last score of the game before the final whistle was blown. Full Time Score:- Laune Rangers 2-10, Dr Crokes 2-5.

Cian O’Shea and Daniel Macbeth took care of 1-7 of the team’s total between them with some excellent score taking on show. Aside from the afore mentioned scorers, Pierce Tyther was an assured presence at the back while Cathal Doyle & Mark Healy impressed off the bench.
