Laune Rangers progress to Mid Kerry Minor Final

Keel/Listry 1-6, Laune Rangers 3-14

Laune Rangers have booked their place in the Mid Kerry Minor Final following defeat of Keel/Listry on Sunday in Keel.

Laune Rangers got off to the perfect start when, after just 11 seconds, Fiachra Clifford struck an excellent shot to the net – Roan Moriarty supplying Eoin Evans with a super long range pass before the full forward offloaded to Clifford. Keel/Listry pointed a free in the third minute but the remainder of the early stages was pretty tight, and 7 minutes passed by before the next score as Cian O’Shea increased Rangers’ lead. The next play produced the score of the game, as Fiachra Clifford fed Dáire Cleary who out-paced a number of defenders, carrying the ball down the right flank and then in towards goal before applying a cool finish to the net. Keel/Listry added a point to leave Rangers ahead by 2-1 to 0-2 after fifteen minutes.

The second quarter was dominated by Rangers, as points from Dáire Cleary (3, 2 frees) and a great left footer from Gabe Griffin were followed by another Dáire Cleary goal. Roan Moriarty got upfield from midfield for another Rangers point before Keel/Listry slotted a free late in the Half for their third point. Half Time Score:- Keel/Listry 0-3, Laune Rangers 3-6

Keel/Listry kicked their fourth point with a free in the opening minute of the second half. Eoin Evans then pointed for Rangers after he had shaken off his marker with a clever shimmy, but it was soon cancelled out by another point for the hosts. Cian O’Shea (2, 1 free) and Dáire Cleary (free) increased Rangers’ lead to 3-10 to 0-5 with 15 minutes to play.

Mark O’Connor was next on the scoresheet for Rangers – scoring a well deserved point following a huge effort in the game, having been on the end of some big hits throughout the first half in particular. Dáire Cleary further added to his tally with another two points (1 free) before Keel/Listry got their first score of the second half with a point. Keel/Listry added a little more gloss to the scoreboard with a goal of their own in the 56th minute, but the final score of the game went to Rangers through Cian O’Shea with a super effort from the left flank. Full Time Score:- Keel/Listry 1-6, Laune Rangers 3-14.
