AXA Insurance Senior Football League Div 1 Final(from www.kerryladiesfootball.com)
Laune Ranger 3-20
Sneem Kenmare 1-11
Laune Rangers captured their 3rd Division 1 title in a row after a
convincing display of firepower against a gallant Sneem Kenmare who make
this trip to the division 1 final having accounted for Listowel last
weekend. Now having contested the division 2 final of last year Sneem
Kenmare can hold their heads high and build further on their success and
don’t be surprised if both of these will meet in the other Senior
competitions finals during the year ahead. The Rangers opened their
account in the first minute by Sarah Houlihan followed by another from
Amy Foley and what a game she had as she was a thorn in Sneem Kenmare
side because if she didn’t score she set them up. Claire O’Sullivan had
Sneem Kenmare’s first reply and in fairness in any other given game her
display is what wins games, but in fairness Laune Rangers were up for
this game as they had a 3-6 to 2 points advantage by the end of the 1st
quarter as Meadbh Jonston, Amy Foley and Sarah Houlihan all raised the
green flag and with further points from Patrice Dennehy, Bernie Breen
& Muireann O’Shea saw them 3-12 to 1-5 ahead at the short whistle as
Majella O’Sullivan leading the attack for Sneem Kenmare found the net
and points from Geraldine Doyle, Caroline McCarthy & another effort
from Claire O’Sullivan cut the deficit at half time.

Sneem Kenmare were awarded a penalty at the restart and was
brilliantly saved by Rangers keeper Susan Joy Sheehan and from that
startled attack Rangers out gunned and muscled their opponants in the
3rd qtr as Foley & O’Shea attacked and pointed from play. 3 replies
came from Claire O’Sullivan but the gap was too large to close as
Rangers tagged on scores from Sarah Jane Joy, Bernie Breen, Amy Foley
and Patrice Dennehy keeping that distance between the sides, meant that
Rangers could afford to play the clock down and hold possession.

“All the groundwork done” as Laune Ranger’s #4 Maura O’Sullivan
and Sneem Kenmare’s #14 Linda O’Connor go hand in hand for possession as

Sneem Kenmare did try and won’t be faulted for their effort but Laune
Rangers were out, to hold on to the record for another year. Excellent
displays from captain Lisa Dennehy, all of the Rangers back line and
their mid field ace partnership of Bernie Breen & Amy Foley along
with Sarah Houlihan had a little too much experience on the day over a
defiant and gallant Sneem Kenmare who pushed to the finish and can be
proud of their work rate from Ann Marie O’Mahony, Geraldine Cahalane,
Linda O’Connor, Geraldine Doyle and Claire O’Sullivan.
