Laune Rangers travelled to Templenoe last Friday
evening to face Inbhearr Sceine Gaels in the Senior Ladies County
Championship. On a glorious evening,
Laune Rangers came out victorious against the Kenmare side. Laune Rangers played fantastic football &
with a great overall team performance, every player fought very hard for each
other & their experience and hard work paid off in the end. Laune Rangers
were without injured county players Sarah Jane Joy and Amy Foley due to injury
and faced a very difficult task heading into the game, as ISG had beaten the
Laune-siders in their League encounter just two months ago. However, Laune
rangers were quicker out of the blocks and stunned ISG by their accurate
passing and delivery of the ball. Laune
rangers defence was very tight, goalkeeper Edel Murphy showed her inter county
pedigree by pulling off some great saves, corner backs Mary-ann Doherty and
Maura O’Sullivan swept up every loose ball while Johanna O’Callaghan kept the
ISG attack quite from centre back. ISG had no response to the midfield pairing
of Patrice Dennehy and Bernie Breen, who dominated throughout. Sarah Houlihan was very impressive with a
tally of 1-9, with 1-7 coming from play.
The full forward line showed experience and worked very hard with great
running lines. Laune Rangers had a half time lead of 3-8 to 0-2, & a 2nd half rally from ISG was quelled by their visitors, who eventually won on a scoreline of: Laune Rangers 4-16, Inbhearr Scéine Gaels 4-5. Laune rangers will now face Castleisland Desmonds/Duagh on Friday night the 25th at home in the County Semi-Final.
