Laune Rangers 5 – 08
Listowel 4 – 07
After tasting defeat in the first round of Division 2 of the County League against Glenflesk last Friday, Laune Rangers bounced back well to take the points against Listowel in the Track on Wednesday evening.
On what was a perfect evening for football, Laune Rangers started very brightly with a well taken goal from Eoin O Sullivan. Listowel hit back with a point but Rangers dominated the next 10 minutes with Captain Darragh O Sullivan working very hard in midfield. In that period Rangers scored 1-03 without reply including another goal from Eoin O Sullivan & great long range points from both Fiachra Clifford & Cian O Shea.
Listowel slowly began to play themselves into the game & that pressure led them to scoring 1-01 before hitting the post with a goal bound effort. Rangers rallied to finish the half strongly with fine points from Patrick Carey & Cian O Shea to leave the half time score 2-05 to 1-02.
Rangers started the second half well & dominated possession for the first 10 minutes, this pressure paid off with a well taken goal from Fiachra Clifford after some good build up play through the middle involving Liam Croke, Eoin Evans & Patrick Carey. Rangers were now moving very well & thesides exchanged points before Keelin Houlihan & Eoin Evans added a further 2 goals to the give Rangers a commanding lead.
At this stage Listowel could have given up completely but to their credit they rallied & scored a goal almost immediately which gave them renewed hope. They put the Rangers defence under tremendous pressure & scored 2 more goals in quick succession to narrow the gap to just 3 points, 5-06 to 4-06.
At this stage the game was there for the taking for both sides & Listowel pressed hard for an equalizing goal. Heroic defending from Rangers backs as a unit along with a great block from Oisin Daly & a goal line clearance from Kieran Whittleton kept Listowel at bay.
Listowel added a point from a free to leave just 2 points between the sides with 5 minutes to go. From the kick out the ball was won by Rangers Captain Darragh O Sullivan he let the ball in long to the forwards that resulted in a fine long range point from Patrick Carey. Rangers again won the next kick out & it was left to Fiachra Clifford to round off a very good team performance with a great point from distance to leave the final score 5-08 to 4-07 to the Rangers.
