Laune Rangers: 1-13
Laune Rangers and Glenflesk U14 played out a pulsating encounter on Wednesday evening last in testing conditions but each side had to settle for a share of the points.
The 1st half saw the visitors in dominant mood with the impressive midfield partnership winning their match up and adding the majority of their sides scores throughout the half. Laune Rangers kept to their task and were rewarded with points from full forward Keelin Houlihan and wing forward Jesse McCormack. Glenflesk kept the lead during this half and a well taken goal by the lively left corner forward saw the pressure turned up on the Laune Rangers side. Towards the end of the half a well worked forward move was rewarded with a goal by Neil O’Brien after some good link play with his half forward line to keep the home side in the game.
At the end of a one sided half the Glenflesk went in with a commanding lead of 2-9 to 1-2.
Half time changes paid dividends for the home side with the introduction of forwards Jamie and Fiachra Clifford and Darragh O Sullivan to the full back line. These changes led to a sustained period of pressure by the home side and resulted in unanswered points by Neil O’Brien, Jamie Clifford and Patrick Daly started the fight back .
Both sides had their chances in this second period but with Laune Rangers extending themselves at midfield and their backline performing as a cohesive unit, the Glenflesk forwards were finding it hard to create scoring opportunities. Glenflesk did create some scoring chances such as a terrific goal chance but were denied by the woodwork which could have turned the game back in their favour but had to settle with a well taken free.
In the backline, with the pressure on, particularly in the 2nd half , John Francis O Grady at full back, Darragh O Sullivan on as a 2nd half sub and Tadhg O Sullivan all performed well. The midfield partnership of Neil O Brien and Cathal Doyle turned in a solid 2nd half display with strong running and some great defensive blocks and clapping in with some scores. The forwards showed some good interplay, with some free passing movements and scores in the first half but came into their own half when they began to get more possession. Christian Fleming, Jamie and Fiachra Clifford along with Jesse McCormack all performed strongly on the night in testing conditions.
The game finished honours even on a score line of 2-10 to 1-13 after a tough battle in which both sides dominated a half each.
Thank you to all who came out and supported the team.
