U’12′s vs Legion – County League – 14 April 2013
Laune Rangers Blue Team
Laune Rangers Blue team were at home at the J.P. O’Sullivan Park on Sunday evening last against Legion. This was a hard fought encounter between two strong and talented teams.
Playing with the wind in the first half, the Rangers players got stuck in from the start, challenging for every ball and performing well in all areas of the field.
The backs, midfielders and forwards combined well creating valuable scoring opportunities and closing down attacks from the opposition. Laune Rangers were ahead at half time with goals from Gearoid Hassett, David Mangan and Roan Moriarty and opening half points from David Mangan, Shane Doona and Eoin Clifford.
The second half was some battle. Legion now had the wind advantage, and went on to first draw level with, and then go ahead of, Laune Rangers who had answered with 3 great points against the wind from David Mangan, Shane Doona and Roan Moriarty.
The game was now on a knife edge with Laune Rangers trailing by a point at that stage. Laune Rangers scored two further goals one from David Mangan and one from Dean Callan to put Rangers back infront.
Legion however went on to score 5 more points and the game was again level in the dying minutes. Legion picked off a final point on the final whistle and Laune Rangers lost by this one point, the narrowest of margins.
Full credit is due to Laune Rangers on a great performance. All players played well, giving their all in miserable conditions at the end of a very busy sporting weekend for them.

Laune Rangers White Team
In extremely wet and windy conditions in the J.P O`Sullivan Park on Sunday evening the Laune Rangers White Team ground out a great result against a very physical and skilful Legion team.
Captain on the night, Barry O’Connor won the toss and decided to play with the wind. In the early stages of the first half the wind proved difficult to judge, but soon after the Rangers settled and picked off some great points plus two great goals, the goal keeper and defence were disciplined and gave very little away to the opposition, close marking, blocking and clearing any threats in front of goal. The midfielders worked tirelessly throughout the half to supply ball to our forward line which linked up very well and to their credit gave the Legion defence a tough time of it all night.
The second half against the wind Rangers had to work extra hard as Legion threw everything at them, again midfield and defence were solid as a rock under extreme pressure, the forwards worked back to collect ball and go forward and pick off another goal and a further two points. Great goal keeping averted some goal chances.
The Legion picked off two good points, but as the half went on they began to tire from their efforts to break through the Rangers.

The players on both Blue and White teams must be commended for their efforts at training during the week and the games themselves. The fair play and respect given to the referee and opposition on the night was very evident.
A special mention must go to the lads who had a very busy and successful weekend in both rugby and soccer, their efforts were much appreciated.
We wish them the very best of luck in the next stage of their respective competitions.
