Laune Rangers Minor Team took on Annascaul/Lispole in the Final of the Keane’s SuperValu County Minor League Division 3B on Friday night. Both teams took time to acclimatize to the torrential conditions but it was the West Kerry side who got on the scoreboard first. Kerry Minor Bryan Rayel slotted two short range frees in quick succession to give his team the lead but Rangers quickly responded with a point of their own with a point from 18th birthday boy Daniel Macbeth. Manus Gallagher was fouled inside the large rectangle and a penalty was awarded, which was duly dispatched into the net by John Tyther to give Rangers the lead. Rangers were now dominating in midfield and minutes after their first goal, Aidan O’Sullivan got a fist to a wide-bound shot to direct the ball to the net for Ranger’s second. Annascaul then had an attack of their own and when Pierce Tyther’s foul on A/L’s Ryan Manning was deemed to be cynical, he was shown a black card and was replaced by Jesse McCormack. The resulting free was put over by Rayel for the West Kerry men & Rangers now led 2-1 to 0-3 after a quarter. Annascaul attacked again & when Jack O’Connor’s attempt at a point dropped under the bar, Rangers goalie Robert Lynch was wide awake & pushed the ball over. Patrick Daly slotted two frees for Rangers before half time. Laune Rangers led at Half Time on a score of 2-3 to 0-4.
Laune Rangers didn’t let up after the break, and 3 minutes into the second half, a stunning pass from Daniel Macbeth found Manus Gallagher through on goal. The wing forward tapped the ball over the bar for a fine point. Annascaul/Lispole responded with a point by Fionn Coakley before the best point of the evening was scored by John Tyther for Rangers, who split the posts with an effort from 35 yards on the right side of the pitch in torrential rain. Annascaul were now trailing by six & anxious to keep within reach of their opponents they scored two fine points of their own in quick succession – the first from Alan Falvey & the second from Fionn Coakley. Patrick Daly slotted a free for Rangers and with 15 minutes to go, John Tyther’s superb pass found David Costello who smashed it into the bottom corner for a great goal. With a quarter of the game to play, Rangers now led 3-6 to 0-7. Darragh Brosnan kicked a great point for Annascaul/Lispole but it was quickly cancelled out by substitute Jack Smith, who turned & burned his marker to punch the ball over the bar. Frees were exchanged between Patrick Daly & Brian Rayel. Eoghan O’Sullivan & Daniel Macbeth pointed for Rangers heading into injury time, & a fine save by Robert Lynch kept his clean sheet safe. Rayel kicked a great 45 for Annascaul/Lispole with the last kick of the game to leave the final score: Laune Rangers 3-10, Annascaul/Lispole 0-10.
