Dingle win Central Region Division One title

Laune Rangers unable to catch West Kerry side in second half

Laune Rangers 1-6, Dingle 2-7

Laune Rangers Under 16 Boys faced Dingle on Monday evening in the Central Region Division One final, which took place in Blennerville. Dingle opened the scoring with the very first play of the game with a Mark Ashe point, and it remained at that until the 10th minute, when Daire Cleary levelled matters with a well taken point for Rangers who were playing with a strong wind at their backs in the first half.. Laune Rangers then took the lead a minute later through Mark O’Connor, and it wasn’t until the 22nd minute that the next score came – a Niall Geaney point for Dingle that once again levelled the scores at 0-2 a piece. Fiachra Clifford (Rangers) and Davidos Usios (Dingle, free) traded scores before the break and the score at the half time whistle was: Laune Rangers 0-3, Dingle 0-3. Padraig Ahern pulled off two fine saves in the opening half for Rangers to prevent Dingle going in at the half with a big advantage, Oisin Daly & David Mangan also found the better of their markers to keep their side in the game.

Even though the scores were level, the West Kerry side had an advantage coming out from the break, as they had the benefit of the strong breeze that Laune Rangers were unable to capitalize on in the opening 30 minutes. The score of the game came in the opening minutes of the second half – Cian O’Shea scoring a free for Laune Rangers from the outside of his right boot into the wind. Scores were again tied up in the 35th minute when Mark Ashe pointed, and a flurry by Dingle found the seasiders eight points ahead by the 45th minute – points by Luke O’Connell and Seamus Boyle followed up by goals by O’Connell & Ruadhan McCarthy. Davidos Usios increased the lead to nine points with a 45’ on the 48th minute to effectively close out the contest at 2-7 to 0-4. Laune Rangers rallied for the final 12 minutes and points from Cian O’Shea (free) and Patrick Carey were followed by a Cian O’Shea goal straight from a free through a wall of Dingle defenders. Unfortunately time ran out for Laune Rangers as the final whistle was blown and Dingle claimed the Central Division 1 title. Full time score:- Laune Rangers 1-6, Dingle 2-7.

Laune Rangers will be disappointed in the five minute spell in the second half that ultimately cost them the game, as the 2-3 scored by Dingle proved unattainable for the Killorglin side. Padraig Ahern, Oisin Daly, Fiachra Clifford and the placed ball accuracy of Cian O’Shea were the standouts for Laune Rangers. Ruadhan McCarthy, Davidos Usios , Luke O’Connell and especially Mark Ashe were Dingle’s main men, and the performance of Ashe at midfield was the real difference on the day.
