Rangers defeat Milltown/Castlemaine in County U14 Division Nine

Development Team make it four wins from four in the League

Laune Rangers 3-9, Milltown/Castlemaine 3-5

Laune Rangers Development side kept up their 100% record in County Under 14 Division Nine following defeat of Milltown/Castlemaine in an exciting battle in Killorglin on Thursday evening.

A strong breeze blew on the evening, giving a distinct advantage to the team playing downfield with Rangers reaping the benefit of it in the first half. Rangers led by 1-3 to 0-1 after a 15 minutes – David Crowley (free), Oisin Lynch & Eoin Joy pointing before Rian O’Sullivan struck to the net.

Further points were added by Cillian Buckley (free) and Rian O’Sullivan before Joseph O’Neill scored Rangers second goal to leave Rangers leading by 10 points at the break. Laune Rangers could have been further ahead but the woodwork twice stopped Eoin Joy from scoring goals. Half Time Score:- Laune Rangers 2-5, Milltown/Castlemaine 0-1.

Milltown/Castlemaine took over completely in the second half with the breeze behind them, which left Laune Rangers backs under sustained pressure. Rian O’Sullivan pointed the first point of the half for Rangers, but two goals and a point in the next two minutes for the visitors narrowed the gap between the sides but credit to the Rangers backs, there wouldn’t be another score in the third quarter, leaving Rangers leading by 2-6 to 2-2 with 15 minutes to play. Milltown halved the deficit with two points (1 free), but Rangers rallied together for the final stages and scored three unanswered points through Eoin Joy (2), and Oisin Lynch to put a cushion between the sides. Milltown/Castlemaine responded with a point, but a third Rangers goal from Tom Garry put the contest beyond doubt. Milltown/Castlemaine hit the net for a third time from a free kick but the final whistle followed soon after. Full Time Score:- Laune Rangers 3-9, Milltown/Castlemaine 3-5.

The Laune Rangers rear-guard stood up to an onslaught of attack after attack early in the second half, & held firm led by James Prendiville, Senan O’Meara and Tom Garry. Oisin Lynch threatened with every opportunity, while Rian O’Sullivan was a livewire and covered a huge amount of ground throughout.
