Fresh from their County Féile success the previous weekend, Laune Rangers Under 14 Boys resumed County League action on Wednesday evening, with both teams coming away with good wins in their respective Divisions

Division 1:- Laune Rangers 5-20, Moyvane 0-7

Laune Rangers put in an excellent performance in a top of the table clash in JP O’Sullivan Park, but the sides were evenly balanced in the early stages. Cillian Foley netted early while Eoghan Hassett added three points, but Moyvane pointed three times in the period to leave Rangers leading by a goal with a quarter played.

Rangers kicked on and increased their lead in the second quarter, with Ryan Diggin getting forward from midfield to score a great goal. Moyvane pointed twice, but Rangers responded with points from Darragh O’Grady & Jack O’Sullivan (2, 1 free). Half Time Score:- Laune Rangers 2-6, Moyvane 0-5.

Moyvane pointed once in the third quarter with a free, although Adam Carey denied the visitors with a great save. Laune Rangers were clinical at the opposite end as Eoghan Hassett pointed three times to supplement a fine goal, while Oisin Lynch netted shortly after his introduction. Jack O’Sullivan (2) & Ryan Diggin stretched Rangers lead to 4-12 to 0-6 with 15 minutes to play.

Rangers continued to press home their advantage in the final quarter with a fifth goal coming through Darragh Evans, while points from Jack O’Sullivan, Cillian Foley, Adam Owens, Ciarán O’Sullivan & Eoghan Hassett (4). Aside from some excellent attacking, the defending was super all evening, with Tim Mangan & Cathal O’Callaghan particularly solid. Full Time Score:- Laune Rangers 5-20, Moyvane, 0-7.

Division 9:- Laune Rangers 5-10, Austin Stacks 4-4

Laune Rangers White team were in also action on Wednesday evening, playing against Austin Stacks in Cloon.

Electing to play against the breeze in the first half, Rangers found it difficult to get out of their own half. Austin Stacks were hungrier and won more possession – retaining it well – so the Rangers defence were under a lot of pressure. However dogged defending from goalkeeper and full-back line prevented Stacks from racing further ahead. The Half Back line and midfielders intertwined well and helped each other out, while the forwards managed to bag 3 goals with very limited ball. Half-time A Stacks 4-4, LR 3-0.

The wayward hand-passing was addressed at Half Time by the coaching team of Paudie O’Shea, Patsy Joy and John Clifford, and a very different Rangers team came out after the break. Every ball was contested and won, denying Stacks any control on the game. Rangers were now finding their teammates with passes and were also finding the target, hitting 2-10 to 0-0 in the second half even though the breeze had died down.

A super team effort from all players in the second half meant Rangers kept up their 100% winning record in this division and guaranteed a semi-final place.

Laune Rangers ‘White’:- Micheál O’Shea, Shane Kelliher, James Prendiville, Devin Hogan, Oisin Birmingham, Tom Garry, John Tuohy, Cillian Buckley, Colin Griffin, Rian O’Sullivan, Eoin Joy, Joseph Cronin Langham, Cian Fogarty, David Crowley, Senan O’Meara. Sub: Jamie Healy.
