The Laune Rangers Under 14 Blue Team with a number of their counterparts on the White Team after Wednesday evening's games in Connelly Park, Tralee.

U14s begin County League with a win

Blue team win in Division One, while White Team defeated in Division Nine

Laune Rangers travelled to Connelly Park, Tralee on Wednesday evening to face Austin Stacks in the opening Round of the County Under 14 Leagues. Both clubs are fielding two teams in the competition this year, in Divisions One and Nine.

In Division One, The Laune Rangers Blue Team achieved the ideal opening to the campaign with a great win. Austin Stacks had the perfect start with a goal after 20 seconds, but Rangers composed themselves and, after the sides had traded points with Eoghan Hassett scoring for Rangers, Hassett scored Rangers’ first goal after good work from Callum Moriarty & Marc Clifford. Further points by Callum Russell (free), Marc Clifford & Adam Owens (2, 1 free) were met by a Stacks brace to see Rangers lead by 1-5 to 1-3 with a quarter played. Laune Rangers added a further four points through Marc Clifford (2), Eoghan Hassett and Callum Russell (free) versus two from Stacks to take a four point lead at the break. Half Time Score:- Austin Stacks 1-5, Laune Rangers 1-9.

Laune Rangers added two goals in the third quarter through Adam Owens and Eoghan Hassett as well as a point from Tom Whittleton, while Stacks matched their entire points tally from the first half to see Rangers take a 3-10 to 1-9 lead into the final 15 minutes. Laune Rangers put in a stellar defensive performance in the final quarter as Jake Reenstierna pulled off four super saves to deny the home side goals while his twin brother Matt at centre back led the line to hold out their long distance shooters alongside Callum Moriarty and Callum Russell at midfield. Stacks would not score any further for the remainder of the game while at the other end, substitute Darragh O’Grady put his stamp on the game with a goal and a point, while Callum Russell pointed the final score of the game to put gloss on an excellent win. Full Time Score:- Austin Stacks 1-9, Laune Rangers 4-12.

The work rate of the team was excellent on the night, with all 15 starting players putting in a great shift & the six subs were more than capable to slot in when needed.

In Division Nine, the Laune Rangers ‘White’ Team were defeated as a late goal and some insurance points for Austin Stacks decorated the scoreboard in a highly competitive game. Full Time Score: Austin Stacks 3-10, Laune Rangers 2-6.
