Glenflesk 2-10, Laune Rangers 5-13
Laune Rangers Under 14 Blue Team recorded their second win in the County League Division One with an away defeat of Glenflesk on Wednesday evening.
Laune Rangers got the ideal start with a point from Eoghan Hassett after ten seconds, but Glenflesk had much the better of the opening quarter with a 4th minute goal spurring them on. Laune Rangers were quite efficient in their score taking though, as they trailed by 1-3 to 0-5 after 15 with much less possession of the ball – Adam Owens, Eoghan Hassett (2) and Tom Whittleton adding the points.
Rangers added two goals in as many minutes through Hassett and Mikey O’Donnell to overturn the score, and O’Donnell added a point to put his side six ahead with twenty minutes played. A Glenflesk pointed free was cancelled out by a well taken point by Marc Clifford before Glenflesk scored a goal late in the half to stay within reach at the break. The score at Half Time:- Glenflesk 2-4, Laune Rangers 2-7.
Adam Owens pointed for Rangers at the start of the second half before a brace for Glenflesk reduced the gap to two points. Laune Rangers struck another double hammer-blow to Glenflesk with another pair of goals as Adam Owens and Eoghan Hassett added to their respective tallies. A Glenflesk point was cancelled out by Callum Russell before Rangers added their fifth goal of the night, as substitute Darragh O’Grady sent a great pass through towards goal and Adam Owens flicked it past the goalkeeper with a deft touch. This left Rangers leading by 5-9 to 2-7 with fifteen minutes to play.
Some stellar defending by Laune Rangers ensured that their lead would not be eaten into, as Matt Reenstierna and Patrick Brennan put in big performances at centre and full back respectively. Glenflesk’s three points in the final quarter were met by four from Rangers through Callum Russell (2, 1 free), Adam Owens and Darragh O’Grady (free) – the latter getting a deserved score to cap off a selfless second half showing. Final Score:- Glenflesk 2-10, Laune Rangers 5-13.
This was another good result at the start of the season and, while the overall performance was not perfect with some errant passing stopping Rangers from building up a head of steam in the first half, a solid second half performance throughout the team ensured they put up a final score that was a little flattering. Competition for places is growing within the squad, however, as management were able to introduce the full complement of substitutes on the night without weakening the team.
Laune Rangers: Jake Reenstierna, James Byrne, Patrick Brennan, Cathal Crowley, James Treacy, Matt Reenstierna, Tom Whittleton (0-1), Ryan Diggin, Calum Moriarty, Jack O’Sullivan, Callum Russell (0-3), Mikey O’Donnell (1-1), Eoghan Hassett (2-3), Marc Clifford (0-1), Adam Owens (2-3). Subs: Aona O’Shea, Darragh Mangan, Darragh O’Grady (0-1), Ciarán O’Sullivan, Jack Healy, Sean Twiss, Daniel Evans.
